Hey guys,

I apologize if you have seen this post elsewhere. I am hitting all my favorite forums with this one.

I just started a new concept gig at Legend Entertainment!www.legendent.com (http://www.legendent.com)

I am very excited that my first task is finding a fulltime, in-house, character modeller to work very closely with me on Legend's newest project. Of course my first inclination was to hit the forums!

I thought I would toss up a couple model sheets I have done recently and see if anyone would like to take a crack. Although these characters are not related to Legends project, they do give a good idea of what a potential modeller would have to work with, quality wise.

I know there are a ton of talented modellers out there, but Legend would really be interested in someone who can work accurately from my "chicken scrawl" concepts. hahaahhaah! Its kind like a test but the subject matter is scantilly clad chics.

Polycounts should be under 3K and seeing the mesh is very important.

......and the base nudes

Looking forward to seeing if people are interested. Hopefully we can get some posts on this thread but if you are shy you can email links and any questions to me at jhawkins@legendent.com

ps. Also hope you like my concepts. I was trying to develop some unique characters to challenge you guys. Wanted to infuse a little personality.

ok get to work!

Hey, sounds cool, and those are some nice designs, what's the preferred software?

Also can you tell us anymore about the job (pay, perks, location, etc)? Thanks and good luck,

Would these have to be in tris or quads? And no need to texture it correct?

The Magic Pen
11-28-2002, 06:37 PM
It's a test for real-time game so it would have to be in tri's because game engines typically dont use quads because tri's are more effciant ..

-The Magic Pen..... its not that tri's are more efficient then quads... its that when you export a model into a game engine it automatically converts it to tri's.. why? because a quad is made of up two polygons.. so making it in quads just gives you an incorrect polygon count.. if you model something with 2000 quads...its really 4000 tris.. so obviously you need to be in tris..or at least convert it to tris to get your polygon count.. i seriously doubt that if you hand a model over in quads they will not be happy with it.. when i make characters i leave then in quads because its cleaner and the typology looks nicer. But when I need to get the polycount i just convert it to tris. However, I export the model in quads and just let the engine triangulate it for me. Pretty much the same thing.. that is unless the engine does a poor job in triangulating..you might want to manually do it for specific areas or cases.

-hawkprey.. beautiful character sheets.. I would love to model the characters.. just can't really find the time now. Good luck on your search.

-kwshipman... yea I'm workin on outlaw volleyball.. thanks for the compliments.. my avitar is kinda a mix between a character in outlaw volleyball and my own little touches.. Her face is the new Donna from volleyball.. I decided to texture her myself so you wont see this exact model with this texture in the game. It will have a little different look.. I've posted this avatar in a thread..here is the link to it so you can take a look...

Hello again, did some work on the "tweakymom." I'm over budget, and still wanting to add details, but will get to some final poly hacking tomorrow, as well as fix some things(namely the hand/arm proportions, and maybe some attention to her back.)

Check it out!

Hi, just wanted to post what i've done so far at about 5 hours of work. The bigger image is the poly in its lowest form. Its just under 800 faces so far. The smaller one is with a poly-smooth and the faces are just over 3000 but I can play with that after I get the whole model done to get it under 3k. I will be working on the head and hands soon and I'll leave the armour and nick nacks to last.

I'm reposting what was lost in resetting the board.

Work done with Tweaky's Mom done in 1 1/2 days all tri's. Count at 3511 because of beveled edges that can be removed to drop count back down if necessary. This model is straight surfaces no sub-d or subpatches.

Well my posts went by by so here is update

Tweaky is 2910 and tweaky mom is 2909 heheh real close. I am choosing to do most of the straps and clothes in textures, and put the polys into the face and the body to define it more

closeup of tweaky's face. Tweaky has been done for several days, I finished her a day and a half after challenge was posted, Her mom took me less time, and is further optimized, cause Tweaky was my first game model, and I got the hang of the triangle thing on her mom.

geez guys

I am overwhelmed with your response to this stuff.

My box at work always has something new waiting for me in the morning.

I greatly thank all you guys for taking interest in this. I also applaud your effort. Alot of guys busted ass on this and that is very impressive.

I apologize if I am slow at returning your emails. I can safely say that I cant do my job and reply to all you guys right away. I wish I could.

We at Legend have seen alot of cool stuff from everyone who has given this a shot. We wish we could hire you all.

Keep em coming.
