View Full Version : Planets and Stars
Control-Freak 01-06-2006, 01:12 AM Just tried out this tutorial http://gallery.artofgregmartin.com/tutorials.html and came up with the following picture. I found the tutorial very easy to go through and even used it with my kids (ages 7 and 9) and they even found it easy and fun.
Now I just need to start studying trees for my next project :)

Looks pretty good, but wouldn't the dark side of the planet be, well, darker? I'm more used to something like http://www.gps.caltech.edu/~mbrown/planetlila/moon/PlanetXMoon.jpg (apologies if you're on a dialup connection). I guess it depends where your primary light source is located. . .

I totally agree that the planet on a whole looks a bit light.
I was trying to use a light source that was about 10-11 oclock towards the nebulas slightly. The darkest side of the planet is on the bottom right just out of view in that picture. Next time I will try and leave more of the planet in view to represent the light source a bit more and have more variations in the light levels on the planet itself :)
