Dear all,

again some free time for testing and learning..... so It was time to do some fun practice, this is the arabic desert ORYX, it is one of the Icons in this part of the world, I tried to build the model according to image samples and books that help me to model it in LW, then I exported to ZB and I used it to define more details and paint the texture, finally I send back to LW & do some final adjustment on colors and bumps in BP, I also used some bump textures that was created in the 3dtotal CD collection, I think all worked good & every element helped in it's own way...


I did set up a rig to test it out further, did a short animation Test available on this link, it is 11MB Divex.

Hey man, for the most part this is really cool. The first closeup shot on the one Oryx is very well done.

Here are some other things I noticed though:

-The dof on the palm trees in the first shots is way too shallow (and in some other shots too). It makes everything look like a miniature and it breaks up the suspension of disbelief
-Some of the subtle movements (ear/head switches and shake etc) are a little jerky and are missing some overlap.
-It would have been nice to see a fine layer of fuzz/fur on the animals. Right now their skin is a bit plasticy.

Also....it would be nice to see them in motion a bit more. At the end when they both look up I was expected them to both dart off really quickly at the same time (the way animals like that do when they are startled) ...because it looked like they were watching a predator or something. Having a dart-off shot where they kick up a pile of dust (accompanied by some frantic camera moves also) would help to offset the rest of the piece....which is really mellow and slow

Anywho...nice stuff!

but as I said this is mainly a test...so for the final I will be animating every seen in about 5 days to a week, the hole animation was animated within 2 working days... :)
I think for the final I will get onto a bus and shoot live footadge of these animals...
But thanks again for the good feedback, It will definetly help next time round.
