Hmm- interesting along with the fact that directly after CES, rumors are at Macworld they may announce a boost to Apple's downloading video service-- with feature length films and such all viewed off of some remote server.... just rumors for right now though.

This is an interesting time of year for technology news, with the Consumer Electronics show followed by MacWorld.

It's like a game of cards, and all the players show their hand.

We've had Microsoft's Bill Gates make his speech at the CES already, about how Windows Vista will be the center of everything.

In the coming hours we'll hear from Google President Larry Page.

About a week later, Apple's Steve Jobs will put his cards on the table.

The interesting thing about Google is not that they will offer video downloads (well we knew that they would do this). The interesting part will be what format will they choose, and what DRM will they add.

Rumors so far say that Google is likely to use the RealPlayer as its platform, and adapt Real's Rhapsody DRM. In the next few hours we'll find out if that is true.
