I am posting this question again because my last thread was soiled with stupid rants. If you don't know the answer please don't post.

Does anyone know if there is a tool in Maya like Lightwaves "Bandsaw tool"? I'm not sure how to describe it, but it would be like "Insert Isoparms", but for polygons. It's a lot like the "Split Polygon tool" only it continues to follow the contour of the polygons. It’s great for adding in detail after you have already started modeling.

(I know you can import Lightwave models into Maya. Unfortunately where I work they want everything to be done in one package and that package is Maya.)

bonusgames plugins/scripts(many of the scripts only work in maya 4, not 4.5 because some are plugins).

Maya 4.5 has already this tool under edit polygons. It called cut poly tools.

sounds like you are looking for the multiloop split command from the mjpolytools

oh really i suggest you look at the edit poly menu again theres no such thing there as " cut poly tool" unless youy mean split poligon tool or cut faces which are totally different things....if anything you mean cut faces which suchs because you cant choose an existent curve and copy like with isoparms in nurbs...instead this tool juss makes cuts across faces and its very shitty..

Sorry I mean cut faces tool, and if you look in the tool options than you can set it to add more points between a row of polys.
try this:
reset the tool
Choose:
interactive cut
disable: Delete the cut faces
disable: Extract the cut faces
I hope this help

if you insert point on polygons edges ( straight line) you will have nothing more than a straight line... on nurbs the curvature is kept because of the nature of a nurbs surface ( one of the multiple advantage of nurbs ) in lightwave with a bandsaw, you only add an edge loop on the existing polys like with the mjpolytools...

MJpolyTools are the best for poly work. It gives you more freedom and act faster

While we're on the subject is it possible to tell MJPolyTools where it should put the new loop? or is it static to the middle of the line you're looping?

yes, on the split node

Yes just click on it in Channel Control, then slide sideways the MMB in any modeling window - the loop will slide! Beautiful tool, I use it a lot. But the slide doesn't work with the Multisplit, just use the plain old Loop Split.

Do MJ Poly Tools work in Maya 4.5?

Is there a way to select multiple lines in MJ Poly Tools and the do an edge loop split and have them all slide to the same value?

Douglask: what error do you get cause it works fine for me in Maya 4.5
