View Full Version : Maya 7 render layer problem : per-layer image name

Currently I'm playing with the new render layer in maya 7. I found that each layer can be rendered under different folders with the same name as the layer name. But how can I change the image name accordingly ? It seems they all share the same file name in render global. It will be a trouble entering composition software.

Glad if anyone can help. :o)

Create a render setting override for each layer and change its image file name prefix should do the trick.

yep, just right click the File Name Prefix in your layers render global settings.

Unfortuntantely, the layer prefix name override doesn't seem to work when batch rendering with Mental Ray. Software renderer works fine.

This is weird. It worked and is still working fine for me

Are you batch rendering a set of render layers using Mental Ray, each with its own name prefix override and it works for you?

Yes. It works just fine for me, batch render using mental ray.

Maybe you could try to make a simple scene with a cube and a sphere, each on a different layer, render the scene to confirm your problem.

EDIT: Ahh, I encounter your problem now. So the filename override really doesn't work when batch rendering from within Maya. I always do my rendering using command line so I don't get that problem.

Yes, I've done the simple scene test. Just did it last week, but it did not take. I'm going to try it again because I really want it to work.

Hey, if you get a chance, would you mind posting a simple scene yourself that you know works for sure, that I can just open up and batch render. Just in case its something I'm doing wrong.

Thanks!

Okay, just read you edit. It does not work when batch rendering from Maya. I was hoping it was my bad.

Try doing your batch render from the command line using render.exe, the overrides work :)
