View Full Version : problems with mirroring blendshapes (HELP!!)
inaktive 01-05-2006, 12:05 AM k so i am starting to make blendshapes for my character and just to do a quick test i tried mirroring the blendshape that i have done on the left side to the right. I am using the mel script "flipShape" written by David Keegan (found here http://www.keegan3d.com/ (http://www.keegan3d.com/)) and it has always worked until now.
once i run it it makes the new blend on the same side no matter what i do. I tried deleting history, tried freezing transforms on the object level, and neither worked. I tried on a test sphere and it worked fine.
I also tried running other similar scripts but still get he same result.
i've included a pic with the shapes. i want to make sure these work before i continue modeling blends. please let me know what i'm doing wrong.

I've never used that script before, but have you frozen transformations and deleted history on the meshes before creating the blend shapes?
The scripts I have used in the past can be pretty particular about the mesh being completely devoid of that stuff.
One trick you could try is to export the original head out as an obj file and reimport it. That is a pretty decent way to make sure a mesh is clean since the obj format is pretty bare bones in what kind of data can be exported with it.
Also, check that your duplicate option aren't set to -1 across the axis so that when you duplicated the head to make your first blendshape it isn't reversed and you just missed it. You could even click on the individual vertices and make sure their indexes line up to one another.
Not a sure fire answer, but perhaps a start I hope.

thanks for the answer, i tried exporting as an obj, then tried it again and it worked fine.
i then center pivoted, deleted history and froze transforms and quickly tried again, but then got the same result in the first place:sad: . In the script editor it also says
// Warning: wrap1 (Wrap Node): No points were weighted to the wrap. Try increasing the maxDistance setting. //
so i tried increasing the maxDistance from 1.00 to 10.00 and still got the same result (not working)
should i just deal with the pivot being where it is, make my blendshapes, apply them, then center pivot afterwards or do you guys see a problem with that. please let me know ASAP as i want to start working on the blends.
