I am trying to batch render in Mental Ray using IBL. My problem is that once I batch render nothing shows up which is vexing to me because everything looks good when I render just one frame. I don't know if I'm missing something obvious, but I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

What file format and framebuffer settings in Metal Ray are you using?

RGBA(Byte)4x8 bit, iff, if that answers your question. I am kind of taking a shot in the dark here, so feel free to shed some light on me.

Maybe youre missing the '-r mr' flag when doing the batch. This flag sets mentalray as the renderer, and the maya software renderer wont use the IBL.

Some things to check and or consider:

- Make sure that you have the correct "Camera" chosen in the common render globals that is actually inside the HDRI image sphere.

- Make sure that you have final gather enabled in the Mental Ray tab.

- I'm assuming that you are using the the Mental Ray tab for IBL (in the MR Render Globals) to automatically create the environment sphere for you and then you just load your HDRI image.

- Make sure that you do not have "Enable Default Light" check in the common render globals tab.

You certainly are correctly named SirRender, thank you for the replies and suggestions, I appreciate it. I do have those bases covered. Based on my research of these forums it appears that there is a myriad of issues that could be holding up my batch render. I am still open to further suggestions, and will continue to troubleshoot.

So check this out. I did a quick Metal Ray IBL render using the batch renderer in Maya 7.0.1 and it kept coming out completely black. Just like the problem you are having ohknats!

It looks fine in the render view window, but black when rendered through batch.

The one thing I noticed that I did not do was give my file a name in the "file name prefix" slot. So, I gave it a name, and viola! It renders just fine now in the batch render.

If I take it off/delete and just leave the default "(not set; using filename)"
Maya batch render just renders black. Give it any name and its all good.

Strange...
