View Full Version : Heavy Assault Vehicle/Walker
retardedmonkey 01-03-2006, 11:41 PM I was playing Star Wars Battlefront2 and their single person walker inspired me to create my own. I have been working on it for a while, and didnt want to post it until it had more to it, and I think it is finally ready for critiquing. I want this to be rigging and texturing practice...and the design is my own. :D
This would be the heavy walker of a future force, I havent added it yet but I will have a shield around the pit area. It has 3 machine guns and can hold 3-6 rockets..heat seeking. I still have to add the rockets, and I am working on the gunners dashboard/control area at the moment.
I am shooting for 8000 tris, and I am at about 3500 right now. I am going to add more to the legs and feet.
Wires later...

looks cool, a bit like a nuts a nd bolts version of one of those beasts the ork ride around on in THE TWO TOWERS. one thing thats a wee bit odd thoughis the size of those feet though, they look alittle ungainly, for a nmachine that looks pretty fast, i would reckomend making them a little smaller. they look a little like a camels foot, could be used fpor spreading its weight across unsound ground like sand or bog.
you seem to be churning them out at the mo, keep it up.

I'm really digging the design of this one  it reminds me of the mechs from the old Final Fantasy titles, sort of. Cool. Well, good luck on the texturing.

Looking good, I hope you give it more weaponry, that one gun looks a bit on the tiny side. I don't think I would bother bumping it up to 8000 tris with details, it looks good now just needs more/bigger weaponry to balance out the design, think you should just make sure you spend some good time on the texturing.
Good luck.

Thanks alot guys for the comments!
I will make the feet smaller to level that out, I am thinking the rear feet will stay the same tho. Also I will beef up the weaponry, I am working on adding rocket pods into the main body design. I am also working on getting some more detail into the pit section, so once I am done doing that I will upgrade the weapons. Then after that I am going to start the unwrappage. :banghead: I h8 unwrapping....cant wait to start texturing, even tho it might be tough at first.
These are the wires of the renders above, just so you can see the things that are fine. I will get updated stuff up tonite hopefully. Have to finish an LAV-25 by tonite tho, so not sure how much I will get done.

Ok well I didnt get that much done here :hmm: But this is what I did, I added the rocket launcher onto the sides, and I added the shield that will protect the pilots from just being shot out. What I was thinking the bars would do is contain the energy shield in this shape. You can see some of the c0ckpit in this render, along with everything else I also fixed the little feet problem we had there...anyway here it is.

Ok well I dont have to much done yet but this is what I have done so far on the textures. If there is something you see that could make it more interesting or just look better plz tell me. I havent done to many textures yet so I need to learn.

looking good so far, nice and restrained use of the texture, only addition id say is some burn streaks away from the gun things, and darken the inside of these. keep it up.

Thanks SHEPEIRO I havent added the burn marks yet but I will do that on the next update. But this is what I have been doing...I am already learning better ways to make the "metal" look more interesting, so I'm happy :D I have about 4-5 m0dels to unwrap so I havent had much time to work on this but...what ya gonna do.
Hopefully I can get some crits or suggestions on how to make it better. Also how do you guys like the color scheme, I am thinking of keeping it the green, light grey, and dark grey. The update is mostly in the legs, a little change in the front area but not too much.

Holy crap, this looks cool as hell. Sorta reminds me of a robotic, four-legged chocobo from hell. :D
Nice work on the textures so far, I like the paint weathering you've done, and the metal bits are looking nicely scratched up. :)
Oh, one thing. I'm not sure if the green you've used for the paint strips is final, but it seems a little bright for a military-type vehicle. Olive drab might look a little better, I think.

looking sweet. only thing i can crit is that its looking a little flat at the mo, could do with some thing to break theat up, or perhaps some good use(subtle) of PSes layers effect, you can use a burn or dodge on a dropshdow effect, just to bring out those layers a little more.
