Hey guys

I'm having big troubles here. I'm trying to rig my character for this months competition with CS but it's driving me mad.

I have isolated the left leg links from the right and vice versa, i've checked for blue vertex and there are none. I've selected all the right leg vertex and have locked their linking and vice versa for the left leg.

I load a biped file and scroll the timeline and it's fantastic, the arms need some toying with but i can handle that.

I render it and get this crap in number 2

Number 1, why is my mesh not deforming to good there? i have only quads, what else could it be?

Please advise as i don't know what to do, i don't see any of that crap in my viewport only when i render.

I'm prepared to share the max files is someone wants to help me so that i can learn.

Please help as time for the challenge is running out fast.

Thanx guys.

check your character stack
you may be putting the physique modefier over meshsmooth modefier , if that just move it down

hope that help

Hey, thanx for the reply.

I'm using an editable poly with meshsmooth set to 0 but rendering to 2 iterations.

Should i remove the meshsmooth from the poly, add the physique and then add meshsmooth on top of that?

doesn't make much sense to me that way but if that's the way it is, i guess that's the way it is.

Iain, you are the man.

Pitty you are far from SA cause i'd just have to shake your hand.

If you ever decide to come down here on a Safari let me know, i'll be your taxi driver :)

thanx again.

The skin modifier is just an alternative to Physique. Imo the skin modifier has grown quite powerful and useful, I tend to use that these days. There's no reason per sé to choose one over another though, so whatever floats your goat (no reasons, that is, unless of course you need a Physique specific feature :), tendons and such for instance)

Hey, as you know i'm learning too, but i can tell you that your vertex are being affected by the other joints so you will need to go into sub vertex mode in the physique roll out and exclude the right side joints from the left and vice versa.

do the tuts in cs.
