View Full Version : Newbie for 2 days... [Glock Pistol]
korge 01-01-2006, 09:06 PM I recently (2 days ago) installed 3DsMax 6 and started reading up on any and every tutorial I could find. My friend who is a good modeller himself is gone at the moment and cant review my practice work and tell what is good and needs work so I joined here. Looks like a great place. Well here is my WiP. Please tell me if it looks reasonable. I spent one whole day on this model alone in my 2 days of using 3DsMax. also, if any one has any techniques or tips they could point out to me, that be awsum.
Pce!

When making a 3D model, it is often a good idea to take note of the fact that very few things have sharp edges and usually look a bit rounded. When modeling, it's a good idea to chamfer these edges. Select the hard edges in 'edge' mode and click chamfer.
If you want to make the gun look smoother, one idea is to add a mesh-smooth modifier. Mesh-smooth works best when all your polys are four sided. You also run into the opposite problem to the one mentioned before. Hard edges appear too rounded. Here, too, you should chamfer the edges.

This really isnt bad for a first time go at it. The hard edges you can easily correct with bevel later on. Otherwise, continue adding the details. This is a good model to work on - if done correctly, you can master much of mechanical modeling.

I turned off some smooth thing. It made my polygons look stupid.
I installed LightWave 8. Is it good for rendering? When it comes to rendering, what program should I use? Plugins?
