At a person who learn Maya MR.. at first, I find difficult to start.. the resource we should use first... after trying, paying ..ect... this is list of first, commercial CD/DVD we should try first
==============
1. At first, the digi-tutor Maya Mental ray is best.. It is only ONE CD but cover all basic thing in Maya Mental ray and cost us less
--------
http://www.digitaltutors.com/store/product.php?productid=49&cat=41&page=1
--------
This CD concentrate on practice, tutorial, technique ... not the basic theory and it will the good start who anyone do not know any thing...
=================
2. Alias learning mental ray:
After finishing or just do 2/3 of digi-tutor CD, the next thing we should view is Alias learning mental ray maya
http://store.alias.com/dr/v2/ec_MAIN.Entry10?V1=783217&PN=1&SP=10023&xid=41107&CID=154297&CUR=840&DSP=&PGRP=0&ABCODE=&CACHE_ID=154297
This DVD is great with both practice and theory... a good adding to digi-tutor maya mental ray
=================
3. And now... with some more advance thing... we will start with Mesmer maya mental ray...
some first chapter is cover in digitutor and alias disc, but the last is good for some advance note
http://www.amazon.com/gp/associates/link-types/marketplace.html?t=mesmer&asin=B0000A8Y50
==================
Right, in my opinion, this will be a list of commercial thing we start... but how about the gnonon with 3 DVD ... It is good, but cost so much and a lot of part is wasteless and so long.
==================
The book: rendering with mental ray is great, but It is not for some one start with maya mental ray... So we could skip it until we want to learn more about therory, the base of a shader...etc...
==================
Right, this is my opinion about commercial thing
