View Full Version : Short Showcase Movie
Kiwee 12-31-2005, 12:00 PM Hey, I am new to this forum, And I registered mainly just to ask for help.
I am hoping to make a full 3D Movie to act as a showcase of what I can do. I will do it all, so that isn't what I need help with.
What I would like to know, is, are there any Free or Cheap sollutions for making the movie, once I have the models textured and boned, the Landscape made, and the soundtrack created. Is there something which I can use to put the whole lot together, and animate the models to, Finally, make a movie file.
I could use Blitz Basic 3D (a BASIC programming language), but that would involve 100% coding, and that would also mean learning how to code animations.
Also, this is not particually needed, but it would be nice if the program could also do sprite effects.
That is all. Thankyou for reading.

Are you starting from scratch with everything?

Blitz Basic - Isn't that on an Amiga??
Not quite sure I understand - are you after a programme that will allow you to animate the characters and then render out the result - ready to be edited into a movie?

Yes pretty much, I just want to know what programs would be usful in making a 3D movie, (for things like rendering, animation, landscapes etc..). And hopefully either free, or cheap.
(p.s The newer versions of Blitz are for PCs and Macs)

Hey there, it's difficult to answer your question, as it's very unclear exactly what you have, and exactly what you want.

Do you already have the skinned models, and need to animate them and render them? If so, what program are they created in?
"Putting the whole lot together" is done in an editing program, but animating the models is typically done in the 3D program you skinned the models in.
Do you need to start from scratch with modelling and skinning?
If you're looking at cheap or free 3D programs, try out Blender (I haven't used it, but many users like it).

first of all, I'm not quite sure if what I'm about to say is correct, but why a full 3d Movie? I mean can't a couple of 2 minute animation shorts do the trick? I'm a composer, but when I sent out demos I don't include a full symphony, or a full album, or a full soundtrack of a game or a movie, but two-three tracks. At least in music this is how it's done.
Of course after being around for a little while, and having worked on various projects, I have done soundtrack for a couple of games, but still I don't use the whole of the soundtrack for my showcase in my website...
Other than that, if you have taken care of all those things you seem to mention, then you're almost done. If you're not then it seems that you're asking things too early maybe...
I wish you all the best with your movie...

As I said:

I have all the programs for the other stuff, it is this final step that i need a program for.
And, sorry, I meant animation, It isn't going to be a full feature length film, Just a short animation (3-5 mins)
Try Maxon's Cinema 4d... Its very powerful but very easy to use... Download the demo and grab some video tutorials from c4dcafe.com to get started... good luck...
