View Full Version : Using Audio to control rotations

Hey all,

I had this idea to have my audio file drive the rotation of my joint.

Is this possible?

I thought I could callibrate the amount of rotation(of the joint) to the amount of amplification(of the audio).

I'm sure this can be done in one way or another but I don't know where to start. Expressions(I hope not)?
Thanks,

Dudeman

hey dudeman. you're right. it's an expression (mel) thing. let me look.............. wait........wait............wait..............

ohh here it is.

at highend3d you can get a plugin called "audiowave.mll for 4.0"
which will give you the amplitude as an output

Hye,

I don't realy like 3dsmax, but it make possible by a simple controller to manage a parameter of animation as a rotation (using the frequency of the sound and a threshold).

Or you could just do it the old fashioned way.... Timing!

Sven,
I saw that mel script and wasn't sure if it could be applied to my situation. I guess I would need to use an expression to use it? That counts me out right now. My math skills are long forgotten. I would really like to get a sense of mel scripting too some day. But I'm still getting around the fundamentals of Maya.

Nicool,
I come from MAX. And yes, they have that audio/noise controller solution. That's one thing I miss about MAX. They supplied alot of things understanding that not everyone can write there own tools.

Isrithe,
Whitty response. I thought I could use the audio I'm using for lipsynching to drive the head rotations a little for that random expression. I'm not necessarily trying to cut corners, I'm just trying to find efficient ways to create solutions for production.

Sven,
I got the audioWav.mel to work. Although I didn't quite grasp how I got there.
It is an interesting function. And I resolve that I should look elsewhere for a solution.

Maybe I'll just key by hand after all.:)
