Hey everyone…
I remember a while ago, in a thread regarding the long lost Phantom System, lots of people were saying that the only thing they liked was the keyboard/mouse setup. Saying if Infinium Labs were to sell just the Keyboard/mouse, than they would go out and buy it…
Well, it seems Infinium Labs was listening…
Infinium Labs Inc. is developing a PC wireless keyboard (http://www.mobilemag.com/content/100/104/C5762/#) and mouse designed specifically for gaming (http://www.mobilemag.com/content/100/104/C5762/#). The Phantom Lapboard facilitates a more intuitive interface—historically, the one major weakness PC games (http://www.mobilemag.com/content/100/104/C5762/#) have had compared to console gaming—and has all you lefties in mind, too. The keyboard can rotate for either right- or left-handed gamers, with two sets of inverted T-directional keys.

With the release of the Xbox 360, everyone's attention has been drawn to console gaming (http://www.mobilemag.com/content/100/104/C5762/#), but that doesn't mean that people have completely neglected their PCs. Many people have computers that are practically dedicated to playing games—like World of Warcraft, for example—that would be either quite lacking, or frankly, quite disappointing if ported over to a console.

Infinium's Phantom Lapboard has a range of 30 feet, places the mouse under the keyboard to keep hands closer together, and features full-size keys and an extended space bar—all in the name of optimizing your gaming experience.

The Lapboard is part of a broader online offering to be delivered by Infinium, including a wide-ranging library of broadband games with both the avid gamer and the casual participant in mind. No price for the lapboard has been announced yet, but expect it to hit stores during Q2 2006.

hm looks cool but i guess it's not very practical. As soon as you make some more violent movements with your mouse, wouldn't your hand be stuck between the mouse and the keyboard ?

meh dunno

Can a PC gamer explain what is cool about that?
I have NO interest in even touching a keyboard when playing a game, but I am curious why this would be any better.
Different, yet. But why better??

multiple functionality for HTPC users and console users. lets say xboxlive allows you to do a text message feature. you could use this from your couch for seamless messaging while playing.

or, some people (like myself) laugh at the idea of playing a fps with a pad.

Or, If you have a pc in your living room (such as a Media Center PC) that is also your gaming PC, you can now play games with an keyboard/mouse that was built to be used wirelessly away from an desk.

I was suppose to be a beta tester for the Phantom back in the day and i was geared up waiting to play with this. Frankly i think this is a great design for couch browsing, there has been a fundemental flaw with using a mouse and keyboard in your living room. Having a solid place to put it. Hopefully the next gen console will support keyboard so i can actually play a FPS on a console again.

That optimus keyboard is nice (when they finally make one)... but these are two different markets.

Ever get to test it?
It looks like a ok system, if only it would drop the monthly fees and all the PC ports, and get some original titles.

This is vaporware and will never make it to market. Infinium labs is in so much financial trouble, they don't have the capital to have this equipment manufactured much less even pay firms they have worked with to design it. Check out the blurb on gamasutra this week about this and you'll see how bad off they are.

No, it was pulled into hush hush just after i was suppose to get it. But if they did what you said they would be competing against the big boys in their market, not making their own market like they would have done.

SpaceRabbit: Maybe so, but that doesnt mean they cant sel off the patents and concepts.

I doubt anyone is going to pay for a patent of a wireless keyboard/mouse on a tray. But, the industry is pretty insane so you never know.

I just find Infinium hillarious. Their history so far has been laughable at best. They have done nothing more then create market hype around inferior product that they are never going to be able to produce. I predict they should have to declare chapter 11 in the next 6 months.
