Title: Environment: Deadwood
Name: Daniel Kvasznicza
Country: Austria
Software: Painter, Photoshop
Hi there!
This's my latest fantasy environment painting.
An alien landscape with huge dead tree trunks ...
I started the sketch in Painter and finalized it in Photoshop CS2. The original resolution is at 4k.
I mostly used my custom brushsets, which you can find on my website in the download section ...
Critiques and comments are very welcome!
Best Regards,
Daniel

Hi,
you did a great job on the trees, rocks and leaves, I guess these are the parts that needed custom brushes
you are talking about. The light glow effect behind the clouds is well rendered. Contrast fading on faraway parts
is good too.

Beautiful work  The lighting and textures are superb.
One small crit about the scale, though. By setting the massive trees as a repeated element, one can assume they are all roughly similar sizes. And the background trees look massive.
The foreground trees are smaller, but they are similar enough to the BG trees to be part of that pattern, which diminishes the effect of size. I think if the foreground included a portion of a giant tree limb it would better show the true scale of the background.
But that's just my opinion, sorry for the long and probably unclear post. I still think its a great piece. Cheers.

Great work, reminds me of a child seeing fantasy movies for the first time as the camera pans up to show the vastness of a new world.

only one word....perfectly
That's a great piece of work. The only thing that niggles me is that the cloud with the sun behind it looks like it was based on a photo that was taken at a higher angle than you have placed it in your scene i.e. to me the perspective of the cloud doesn't look right, I feel for the cloud to match perspective properly that it should be further up the sky.

Critique...? What's there to critique... can Perfection be critiqued? lol...
No, seriously... impressive piece of work. Is this all hand made? or are there photographic elements to this composition.... especially the clouds in the background?
:buttrock: -- Awesome.

Sweet! nice deph and palette!
I think regarding scale, your huge trees could have very small branches like normal ones, and you may want also to add a stronger direction in your lighting, highlights and more Key light on your foreground.

Very strong piece. The only crit from me ... is that the realism look isn't properly balanced. Everything I see is great...but if it weren't for that out of this world sky....to me the rest of the work will have to top that out. The sky to me is the most close-to-realism, and makes the rest obviously unreal.
That's the sick part. And that's my two cents.
