Well, apparently rapidshare is quite busy right now due to a maintenance process until 1-1-2006.

I'll try to upload the file to other site later.

Sorry

Can You post some screenshots? It would mean alot to users without fast connection and downloading 28 mb on modem is no fun ^^

Here they are. These are directly captured from the original video (MPEG2 PAL), not from the avi showed here (400x300).

Thank You for screenies.

Very nice looking, is that baking on textures or some occlusion plugin(or You managed to plug LW into Cray and turn on Monte Carlo :) )?

Thank you.

No baking, just an ambient occlusion shader.

BTW, Happy new year :).

Thanks.

Yes, this project was very fun to do.

Although quite similar there are a lot of different houses, so there was a lot of modeling.
Also, terrain demanded a lot of work because had to be defined by us not by the client.

The project has 500000 typical polygons but there are a huge lot of HD_Instanced geometry, much more than LW is able to deal with by itself. All trees and bushes are instanced.

BTW. Thanks to this project i was able to introduce LW in the pipeline of my new job.
People here uses AutoCAD, Viz and Max and are quite amazed about LW's capabilities. They are very impressed by Fprime or HD_Instance plugins, for example. What's more important is that i was able to do a quality job with a single (and cheap) program instead of using AutoCAD(modeling) and Viz(rendering), so the budget is several times lower (to buy the software).

I feel tempted to learn Blender and Gimp (a free Photoshop clone) just to show some people that we don't need to spend a single cent to do professional works.

hey, nice job kangonto. I know how tough and messy this kind of projects can get. I really do.
Good use of panned stills :D

Also, I like a lot how you solved the environment (always my bane) and those little bushes! Where are those 3d bushes coming from? Which library? they look very nice.

Thanks Netvudu ! :)

I really enjoy creating environments.

I think those bushes came from Dosch 'Garden designer' library, although were modified several times in its texturing (colors).

hello Kangonto ;)

Nice project, it is only a pity that all the houses have the same color...
This time you have avoided the walking peoples and this is very nice like that

You're right. Even i was too lazy to change curtain colors or shapes for every house, but client didn't mentioned anything about that ... so it's OK.

Thanks

He might have used HD Instance for Žem. I know I would.

This is a situation I use to have, and it is very very time consuming

Sorry, i'm actually moving.

The roofs are only partially modeled but are not hd_instanced.

I think this image explains it all.

BTW, the idea of using HD_Instance could work well in some projects (not in this since a lot of houses are different), although it would need some baking because HD_Instance doesn't support shaders (occlusion)

This is a situation I use to have, and it is very very time consuming

And frustrating since client tends to change his mind more than often :banghead:
