View Full Version : toggle constraints on and off ?
Kenton Baines 12-28-2005, 10:21 AM hi,
say I want someone to pick up a coffee cup and put it down, the only way i can think of doing it smoothly is to make the cup a constraint to the guys hand, but what happens when he lets go of the object ? can you keyframe whether a constraint is active or not ? is there a better way to do this ?

hi,
if ur using maya,
first make posing like character holding the tea cup,
Then select hand control then tea cup, go to parent constrain(defaultsetting) apply,
affter that select tea cup set KEY, in chanel box u will get one extra attr its call Blenparent
if u change the value 1 constrain is on '0' is off.
I think this will helpfull for u
good luck

hi kenton,
just as sendhil, said, s, u can setup multpile constraints on the cup to multiple charac hands.. u just animate the weights off from 1 to zero on the required constraints.
but if u have more than one constraints, be ware that the cup's Ts and Rs will be averaged between them. so u need to animate the hands to overcome this. shud be possible like this..

so you can't have seperate blend parents for each contraint ?

seems like you can... thanks.. I think I've got the hang of it now...

so if all the parent blends are set at 0 I should be able to animate the cup however I want right ? ie: have it tip over or something ??

Hi,
kenton (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=59826)
U can constrain one object with multiple controls,
For that u have to animate (just I attached one image pls check)
U have to set key for all channels every time (select the teacup then in channel box select all channels right click key selected.

I think this will useful for u!!
