Hello,

I have a question, I currently have a fairly simple shot of a plane flying in front of a sky that has been comped in shake. After I comped I exported it as .mov file for simplicity. I then imported that .mov file into FC.

I see the whole comped file in the viewer, but when I drag into the seq window or the timeline, I lose the sky. When I hit play I get a blue screen that says unrendered. And my file on the timeline has a red bar above it. The manual say's to render it, after I do that I now see the plane flying but my sky's still not there.

How can I get it back, anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like your footage was rendered out with an alpha channel and upon import into FC it wasn't premultiplied. In other words utilizing both the foreground and background layer.

If you don't wish to manipulate layers based on alphas, I would suggest not rendering out of shake with RGB+Alpha. Just causes you to have long pointless render times if you are not going to use the Alpha. Render with just the RGB or tell shake to premultiply while rendering so you don't run into the issue you are having where you now have to find out how to multiply the footage in FC.

Sorry I can't tell you how to do this as I don't run final cut, but it should be under your footage interpretation window. Or equivelant in FC.

Hey olioli,

Your FCP workaround would be to go to Browser and look for the alpha column on that particular shot. Right-click and select None/Ignore.
