Hi,
Any one know what I am doing wrong?
I am using the "." key to try to weight the edges of this monitor model . However, I get some uneveness after weighting. ie, the points seem to be weighting at a different value than the faces.
I am using polygon weighting.

check out the image.

Thanks

it is uneven simply because the points aren't weighting at the same time, to do them at the same time you have two schoices, weight polygons instead which is infact weighting points and edges at the same time, or reread this howto on weighted hypernurbs

Kai thanks for the reply.
But I am using poly weighting not point or edge weighting as shown by the wireframe on the right. Those are polys hilighted even though they might look like edges.

I have upladed the file. If anyone will like to take a look.
Thanks\

poly weighting is actually point and edge weighting combined... it seems curious to slice so close to teh edge and then want to use weighting on top of that when weighting could save you the hastle.

Anyhow the thing to do is to bring up the edge weighting a little then perhaps (or maybe the otehr way around and bring up teh point weighting a little) till it evens out.

hopefully this should help! :)

Thanks mdme_sadie
I will try it the point/edge method again. ( I had gotten similar results earlier with that.)
In desperation, I had tried to use edge bevel (thats why it is sliced so close to the edge.) Actually , the file I uploaded omn my site does not have the edge bevel step.

This would have been so easy in lightwave ( and it looks well implemented in the Maxon demo video with the plug) but I am pulling my hair out here.
Will keep trying .
cheers

yes... it's true that you can't get a totally straight or rather non w or { shaped line if you use anything other than 100% on weighting for a single edge it would seem (or at least i can't get a single edge to just be a blend between the spherical hypernurbs of a cube and the hard edge of the cube geometry (somewhat of a slight single curve is acceptable). However i think this is down to the different SubD algorythms used in each package.

sorry but I just can't think straight and wrap my head around this, could you post a pic or link to some sort of a screen shot of what the effect your are trying to do is?

Feeling like an idiot since you two are on the same wavelength and I would like to help but am confused.
