hi,
I am trying to make a shader that will render the edge of any object/geometry with a thick black line and fill the rest with a color. Basically i am trying to make a flat toon shader that will render something like the gorillaz style videos.
First i should tell u i am not that great at creating shader networks, i tried conecting the camera shape node to the light info and then that to the condition and that to a surface shader. This works fine for spherical or nearly spherical objects. But doesnt work for anything with flat sides.
Does anyone have any ideas on how i cud get this working????

Or is there an alternative of the softimage "Toon lens shader" for maya??

Annoyingly the "Toon lens shader" does exactly wot i want to do
:(

thanks in advance :)

You can't really do this in shader. There's a plug-in on highend called XMB cartoon toolset or something like that. It uses a seperate applciation to actually render the edge image. It takes a bit of work to comp together, but I think it should be want you want. Also there are commercial plug-ins to do this sort of thing for you, if you got the bucks.
