View Full Version : Ident: Nobel Peace Prize Concert
ArneK 11-26-2002, 01:48 PM I recently finished an ident for the Nobel Peace Prize Concert that will be held in Oslo on December 11th - but unfortunately it won't be used...
I have done all the other artwork/advertising material for the event (as I have the past few years), and when I was told the ident was to be produced abroad (outside of Norway) I rushed ahead and made my own version.
The concert is a gala event with very promient guests (Jimmy Carter gets the Peace Prize this year) and international artists, and I tried to make a very elegant, commemorative and noble ident. Dark blue is the main colour used by the Nobel Committee.
But despite my effort, the producer wanted to make his own version "with lots of Nobel images flying about"... Doesn't sound very elegant and noble to me, but oh well... life goes on.

The medal and the bands of silk were made in Lightwave.
A MPEG-file (2.6MB) can be viewed here. (http://www.akdesign.no/ezboard/Nobel_ident.mpg)

I guess the producer had something else in mind.
Like you know when it really doesn't matter what you make or present unless it reflects *exactly* what they have in mind.

Yeah, that really must suck... if they're not satisfied with it, why not just do it themselves? What--- what that? Of they can't do CG? Well thats a problem isnt it (!) I hope they haven't chosen someone else... have they? :shame:

so what if they wont use it? i'm sure it'll still look great on a motion graphics reel.
i wonder why there isn't a nobel prize for art.

Brilliantly elegant work! Its a real shame they chose not to use this, instead of the silly images flying about. Life does indeed go on, heheh. Best of luck in your very bright future.
Thats a shame. I hate it when clients go abroad. (And often its just an excuse to bring the wife to London for some xmas shopping). Especially with something like the Nobel prize.
(although its swedish), the peace prize is still norwegianhosted and so the production should be kept in the country.
It just makes sense.
oh i should quit ranting.
Beautiful work. :applause: :applause:

Thanks for all your feedback.
I know I really have nothing to complain about, as I wasn't commissioned to make the ident in the first place. When I heard they were going abroad to have it produced, I made this ident to present to them *before* they went abroad - *hoping* maybe it would be used...
I have made all the other marketing and advertising material for the event, attended the concerts the past two years, and felt I had a pretty good idea of what an ident should look like - that's why I did it.
It was a wildcard and I took a chance, and even though it won't be used, it will still look fine on my motion graphics reel. And I learned a lot about using Motion Designer for dynamic clothing simulation in Lightwave during the process. So it wasn't all a waste.
Sometimes you just can't resist taking a chance, right? :)

Most the time.
The client paying for it always has final say. :)
Looks good Arnek. The only problem might be that you're initiative is up against the best motion graphics firms in the world. Good job taking some initiative, I'm sure the producer will remember that next time.
