View Full Version : Geo Approx & vertices
shocky 11-26-2002, 01:42 PM Hi, I've got some problem with the vertices being too far off their respective subd'ed vertices whenever i use geometry approx on the mesh. So, when I want to select a certain vertex, i have to decrease the subd OGL level back to 0 (from 2), then go back to level 2 again to have a look; this turns out to be very tedious. Is there a better approach to working with subd?(Tweak, look, tweak, look...). Sometimes to get the subd'ed vertex at the desired location, I have to translate it so much that when i return to OGL level 0, that vertex so way off it looks messed up... and the reason why i return to OGL lvl 0 is to avoid the messed up vertices of OGL levels greater than 0...
I've tried alt-rightclick> Subdivision but that gives me another mesh, which I believe will give me a hard time UV mapping, so i went for the "hit +/-" way. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure exactly what is the problem, perhaps posting few pics would help.
However, when I model in SubD, I almost never work with subdibisions. By that I mean that I always work at geo approx level of 0, and from time to time increase it to see the result when subdivided. This way I avoid cluttering visibility.
In very rare cases I'll actually work with geo approx level of 1 or 2, this is to fine-tune specific areas that need precision. But I try to minimize the need for subdivision display.

Try a couple of different display modes, it may help.
If you want a seperate mesh try create polygon sub-d and move the duplicated mesh away from the original, just use that as a visual reference. Do all your uv work on the original and sub-d that when you want to. Delete the duplicated sub-d when you're done modeling.
