"The effort was long and painful, but it was worth the wait. After months in the final development stages, Lumileds technology (http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/10/28/a_revolution/index.html#) is finally ready for the market. Announced with much hullabaloo at Cebit 2005, LED backlighting has pushed back the limits of LCD technology, both in terms of color rendering and longevity. Read on and you'll learn all you need to know about this new technology."

Average price $6600...that is steep! I'll wait a couple of years till the price tag drops.

Got the Sony Vaio TX651p which is using the LEDs. The screen is amazing and is about 1/10" in thickness !! It's bright and color uniformity is great.

Where do they sell those fancy glare gaurds? Do they have one for a 30" ACD? considering that your color representation is going to be whacked anyways... i wouldnt worry about it.

also: why post this as news now? this review made teh tech news rounds a few months ago. not exactly a 'current event'
