can someone make tell me what specs to look for when buying lcd panels??

I mean what must be the contrast ratio? response time is really a problem if I won't going to playgames? is DVI output a must have? etc.

may be this should be a sticky to stop everyone asking about "is this brand's this model beats that brand's that model" kind posts? when I search for lcd 4 pages of that kind of topic appears with brands and models I can not find in my country

and not in all countries one can find 20" 24" lcd (2 pages of search contains this) :) I mean what it matters if I find. they are charging us 400$+18% tax (almost 480$) for 17" lcd while in USA it is only 220$ (I can't remember the brand or the model)

I want to buy an lcd for text reading and maybe modellin purposes (I have a nice 19" crt samsung I need an extra monitor when using maya for hypershade visor outliner etc etc.) but I can't choose so can anyone tell what specs must be in what range?

sorry for my grammer :)

I look for the adored lcd's and take a detailed look on their specs! :)

great contrast ratio is a must have I think as lovely samsung 173p have 700:1 and 500$+18%

what ever I keep on looking for forums

If you have really found 4 pages of topics on this forum about LCD monitors that are not retailed in your country then you should perhaps start with listing the models that ARE available in your country and we will help you choose. :)

Here is a nice link covering the anatomy of the LCD screens: link (http://firingsquad.com/hardware/budget_lcd_roundup_0405/).
