View Full Version : Wrap deformers - 'paint weights' equivalent?

Hello,
I'm working on a character and in this particular case I have found it convenient to 'attach' his clothing by wrap deforming them. This works fine for most, but in some parts there seem to be 'influence' problems - at least that is how I interpret them. The character's initial pose is the standard 'T' position, and the pant legs seem to each be influenced by the movement of the opposite leg.

Am I interpreting what I am seeing correctly? And if so, as the thread title indicates, is there a 'paint weights' sort of option for wrap deformers to exclude the influence of certain parts of the geometry (I'm thinking no, but it doesn't hurt to ask! Any other methods if not?)?

I know I can just bind the pants using another method (interesting suggestions never hurt :) ), but the wrap deformer was working just as I wanted it to with the exception of this one little problem.

Many thanks for all help offered!

use an influence object (with "use geometry") rather than a wrap, basically the same, but you can paint it.

John tip is gold, bt if it's too late to redo everything you can use the edit membership tool.(Ctrl +LMB will take the vertex off)

Thanks to you both John and thematt!

Both your tips are golden and are a big help. I've put both to good use already in this project.

I also came up with an alternative fix to my initial problem, which is so darned simple it illuded me at first - I just went in there with the Sculpt Geometry tool (after keying in my animation), and smoothed out the part of the pant leg that was getting pulled out of shape by this misplaced 'influence'. I played the animation, and voila - everything stayed put as I desired. This workaround may not work in all cases, but for this project it really did the trick!
Go figure. :D
