View Full Version : How to create a shape from a surfaced splinecage.

Hello,

Today i started modeling again, it has been a while.
Unfortunately i ran into a problem quite soon after i started.

I created this surface:

The red line drawn on the splinecage is what i want to create, a closed spline with 8 vertexes.

Is there some automated function for this?

I know i can convert the cage to editable poly, then slice and create a shape from the new edges. Unfortunately i would end up with a shape that has a lot more vertexes as the other shapes in the cage.

It would be incompatible with the splinecage.

I would love to know how to solve or get around this "problem".

I thank you in advance,

Peter.

unfortunetly the only way i can think of is slicing and creating a shape from the slice then manually deleting points from the newly created shape.

i haven't played around with the surface modifier but maybe theres a subdivision parameter on it that will alter the mesh somehow so that when you convert it to editalbe poly it will have a crossection that has 8 points.

If this is true, is there a way to make the progam retain the shape instead of taking shortcuts while i delete the overdose of vertexes? or will i have to adjust the tangents all by hand? (which seems to be a pain)

thx for the answer :)

nPower PowerNURBS _may_ be able to do this:

Pwr_Cutter
(PN) Cut or split up an object into multiple pieces. Can be used for sectioning also. PwrCutter allows you to perform multiple Boolean operations with a single cutter shape (like a cookie cutter would do). It also supports Boolean operations on groups of objects.
