View Full Version : Anime - Sailor Moon - Chibimoon and Sailor Saturn WIP
jramauri 12-24-2005, 07:05 PM Hi guys. I'm doing an attempt in making illustrations of manga/anime/games characters in a belivable way, most inpired by the incredible work of Alex Ross. Of course there's a LONG path I have to walk in before I achieve the look I really want, but we have to start from anywhere!
I did recently an attempt with Mai Shiranui, from the King of Fighters series (that you could see in http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=300099), and now I'm trying with Sailor Moon chars.
My inspiration comes from this picture:

I made the sketch by hand, and continued the work on Photoshop:

Any critics and comments are important, mainly for those who like manga/anime. Thanks!

Not an anime fan, but I have to say, that is an interesting idea. The differences are astounding. :)

This is really neat! Great idea. :D
I am just learning some Manga styles right now, so to see this is very cool for me, personally.
Nice work!

Some updates. I still got to deal with hair... to me this is the most difficult part. Any hints from a helpful soul?

I've made some subtle changes, and work better the textures of clothes.

I'm making some work on hair now. It's not my favorite part, but I think I'm starting to understand what I have to do here.

i think the girl's head on the right is just a tad too large...i know you're probably following child/anime proportions but something about it just isn't right to me. but of course it's up to you :)
looks great so far

Wow, that's a really interesting idea! Your texturing in the hair is great, but you might improve it a little by adding the wispy hairs at the end of the locks - right now it is still very chunky-anime, despite the texturing. This is a pretty vague description, but the image here: http://www.kenjisan.com/archives/photos/2004/07-06-04.ponytail.JPG (I just searched "ponytail" on Google) demonstrates what I mean fairly well. The picture looks great, so keep it up!

hpslashluvr and PinkSamurai: Many thanks for your crits. I'll improve the hair, to behave more naturally. About the proportions... Maybe they're a little exagerated to match the original image, but even this way they look nice.

Looking good. I like the whole idea behind what you're doing. As a few people have already said, I'm not the biggest anime fan either but this piece is lookin great.

I think I spent time enough on this image. I learned enough with it and with the comments some mates here have made. Thanks for all who spent some time writing on this thread.
Soon I'll start a new image.
