Modo looks amazing, especially with the new UV Unwrap ability, but my problem is that I am not a proficient modeler and in all the videos I've seen no one seems to use any image references. Is there a way to set up image planes a la Maya or Max? Because of the way I work I am real comfortable with having an image plane in all of my 4 viewports and working my way around, and I'm not suree how well I'd do only being able to work in the perspective view without some kind of reference to go off of and I don't want to spend the days, weeks, months that it would take to learn this process. For me to warrant the expense of buying new software at this point would only be worth it if I can just jump in and be up and running.

There are a few ways to setup background images in modo to work from.

To have an image as a bg viewport, click the button in your viewport that will say wireframe or texture, you can scroll down to the bottom and choose Backdrop and you can load your image form there.

You can also create planes and map images to them in one layer, and then create a new layer and model from there. You will have to change the view type of layer one. Again, press the texture/wireframe button but this time goto Shade options and then background layer. Set this to same as active layer and your sorted.

Just wanted to comment and say, Modo's backdropping capabliities are unlike anything I've ever seen before. Being able to click/drag images into your Materials, that's incredible. :)

And, of course, this is all laid out in the manual so I can start in real easy. I understand the learning curve is real easy.
