Hello all,

I'm wondering if anyone has had any success with taking one of the 2D fluid examples in 4.5 and making a 3D version of the same thing? I would like to make a 3D version of the Cigarette example so that my character can move through space with it and the smoke will work. The current 2D will not allow movement on the Z axis.

I've tried to just duplicate the settings on the emitter, but without much success. Any tips for a fluids novice? Thanks in advance.

Also (shameless plug) be sure to run out and pick up "Ice Age" on DVD!!

You can try making the 2D fluid 3D by setting a hidden attribute:
setAttr fluidShape1.is2d 1

However you will have trouble getting the 3D fluid at a high enough resolution to handle a thin cigarette smoke trail. You may wish to go with particles instead ( although you can still use the 3D fluid as a force on the particles.. make the conserve = 0 on the particles for good motion ).
