View Full Version : C4D <-> MotionBuilder Workflow?

I have been drawn to the MotionBuilder PLE (now that's good marketing), but I'm wondering if anyone with experience can give me an idea of the workflow between Cinema and MB? I could only find a little about some changes that have been made in the workflow with both C4D 9.5 and MB 7.

I have no experience with CA ... just a little animating objects. I know this is painfully newbie'ish, but what role does each app play? Does the wireframe go from Cinema to MB, then back to Cinema in FBX for staging and rendering? How are textures effected? How much of the timeline etc can be changed in Cinema, in otherwords can it integrated with expresso for example?

Thanks in advance,

Steve

for a MB quickstart head over to 3d buzz - he has tutorials based on MB 4 but they are what i used to start. i also have ollys DVD which is great as well and invaluable for specific C4d --> MB tips. but basiclly my workflow is as follows

model ( c4d )

weight + set bones ( c4d )

export via FBX

set control rig in MB

animate in MB + plot properties

export via FBX

import FBX back into C4D

create a motion track for your topmost bone in c4d and apply your imported MB FBX ( topmost bone ) to that motion track - ( this includes using seperate motion tracks for props like a bike for instance + make your FBX from MB invisible.) textures are not affected because you are rendering your original mesh you exported to MB. expresso also works fine but for example if you use a position node to parent a hat to your characters head you use the head bone from your MB FBX reference as that is what is driving your native c4d mesh that you are rendering.

render (c4d)

probably sounds a bit confusing untill you get a vid tut. good luck
