CGTalk - odd color picker

i havent used ps for a loooong time lol i opend it up today and found some odd things goin on :confused:
firstly i tried to fill a blank page with black background :S but when i fill it fills it with grey color and when i fill more it starts to fade to black

and the color picker is changed :S i thought it looked diffrent from this , i took a picture

on the left the grey is what i got after filling with paint bucket tool and is that how the color picker suppost to looks like ??

For the first part of your Q... probably you're fooled by the selection of LAB color (L is checked in your color picker), so just check HSB (H actually) to get back to default state.

Also, check the opacity of your paint bucket. It is probably less than 100% (which would explain the gradually-fading-to-black behavior).
