Can't really believe my eyes. Have just installed the latest forceware drivers from guru 3d ver 82.12. In XP it seems to of resolved the whole opengl/cpu usage issue with my 7800 gtx. Now in Lightwave modeler I'm idiling between 0 and 8% rather than 50% and up. Nice one.

Will now try the x64 version. Fingers crossed.

Just thought this was worth a mention, as I know a few users out there are stuck with 77.77 78.01 drivers.

Would be interested to see how other apps cope with these new drivers and opengl.

Cheers

Thats good news, I use lightwave as well, but I wont be able to test this out until I get back from vacation in a week or so. Oh well. I had heard from people that frequent the Nvidia developer's forums that this was an issue they were addressing.

Im just surprised that something like that made it passed QA *shrug* I guess everyone makes mistakes :P

I briefly read the release notes prior to downloading, and didn't see any mention of the issue being resolved or even that it existed. Pleasantly surprised, when I found that it had been fixed. Nice one.

Have tested X64 version as well and that works.Thank you Nvidia.

Not sure, but opengl does also appear to be a bit snappier.

Enjoy your vacation Lots. I'm looking forward to mine in about a week or so.:)

Hah, maybe its because the previous drivers were eating up CPU cycles that could otherwise translate into performance :P

Anyway thanks :) and have a good vacation too.

How come the guru3d drivers are more up to date than the drivers available on the NVIDIA site!?

And also, whats the difference between the :-
- nForce4 AMD Edition - Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Version: 6.69

and

- nForce4 AMD/Intel X16 (6.82)

???

no sign of any updated maxtreme drivers then? :(

The 80 series are video card drivers the ones you mention are nForce chipset drivers (for motherboards).

Actually Guru3D gets the drivers from Nvidia. You can wander the nvidia FTP and see a collection of drivers there. Alot of them are not officially linked to on the main site. Mostly because they are beta, or not targeted at a release on the download page. And actually Nvidia does have links to these drivers, via "nzone"

Take a look here: http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_downloads_winxp_2k_32bit_82.12.html

All the links point to nvidia's download area.

Here's a link to the ftp: ftp://download1.nvidia.com/Windows/

Yes, I know they are chipset drivers, but I was wondering why there is two types of amd nforce-4 drivers. Are they for different socket motherboards or something?

Well there is a design difference between the Intel Nforce4 and the AMD version. The AMD version is a single chip solution, since the memory controller is found on the CPU, while Intel's NF4 is a 2 chip solution, with the north bridge handling the memory and PCIe 16x slot(s) and the south bridge handling the rest.

Because of that design difference, I can see the need for a different driver set for each platform.

There is actually 3 drivers... which i think was what he was asking about.

Nforce4 AMD
Nforce4 Intel
Nforce4 AMD/Intel X16

Whats the latter one for?

Anyone try these drivers with maya 7? I have had issues with all drivers except for 77.77 using maya7, 7800gt, x2 4200, xp pro.

Great, the new driver works pretty well here, no more problems with 100% CPU usage in CINEMA and max is now again able to start.

I've been using 81.97 for about a week now, the dual/HT cpu usage problem under all ogl apps is now fixed. They have a small issue with FSAA and java though.

I wonder if these 82.12 drivers fix those problems. I have used these now with maya7 and they seem about the same as 77.77. I have not tried it with to many other apps though.
