View Full Version : Quarantined Alien Mark II
xebra 11-25-2002, 09:25 PM I tried to improve this based on the comments I received. I do think it is better than it was.

??? This is multiple times worse than your first version. I thought the first one was good, I'm not sure why you changed it. Those pants, if that's what they are, are terrible. And it looks weird to give him skinny upper arms and a skinny waist like that. Plus you can see lots of polys on him. I liked it before. Change it back quick! :)

funny how people find a model and try to change it a little and call it their own..... kinda funny and sad. This was very obviously a model you downloaded and tried to make something out of. Notice the amazing anatomical acuracy in the body in your first version you posted, especially in the hands, and the manipulations you did to it were very obvioulsy done by someone with 1/8th the skills of the person that made the origional........
I just call them like i see them........

This is a highly modified poser body...the head is all mine as well as the environment and staging. The only sad thing in my opinion is your unfounded critisism. What have you created?

if you reffer to hacking a poser model and slapping a brick texture on a cube as "creation", then you are correct, i have "created" nothing........
anyway, enough of this pety squable. back to rendering........

hmm.... it's a poser model? I think it would have been appropriate if you actually mentioned that before in your previous thread, xebra. cos I thought you modelled the alien from scratch....

ripping other models is a VERY bad start at the modelling career....especially when you don't say it's a rip-off...

Oy, alright, you all don't know me and I don't know you. But you're being really harsh on the guy. Constructive criticism only, please. Let's be gentlemen, even if he hacked a poser model.

If he ripped something he should be flamed until he is a toasted corpse. No excuse ever.
About the poser thing. That was rotten. Bad move.

Oh yeah. How silly of me. You're right, flaming is a great way to help other artists learn how to do stuff.
Good call, homey, have a great Thanksgiving.

I'm affraid that in this case it's also an issue of whether xebra is worthy of constructive input.
In this case, not only was the rip not disclosed, but sarcasm was offered instead of an apology when the issue was brought to light by another observer.
Personally I consider such behavior childish and unacceptable.

I agree with Jinxo, give the guy some credit. So what if its not a shiny new car with alot of time rendering it with some nice caustics and GI, but it is still something. Who cares what hes has done with it and where he got the models, hes trying at least.
In lighter note, back to the crit.
I do a belive its a little worse then the first one, i would say that keeping the more humanish body and just modifying it in a little ways is great. Say add a horn here, weird tentecal there and you would ahve yourself a decent alien, just put time into doing it. With the clothing, i suggested in an earlier post that maybe drapping a loain cloth over its waist would be great, just make it nice and dirty and tatered.
Its sad to see people ripping on other artist in this way. Shame on you all, we were all once in this situation where we deal with what we have and what we can do.

sadly enough i cant see the images - broken they seem.
And i dont care a bit if the model originated from poser or anywhere else - it is a step in the works of somebody and noone should have the right to throw garbage posts at it like some did above.
Criticism always has to have suggestions how to do things better. I cant see any info how to improve the pics in some of the above posts.
So if you people don't know how to critique correctly try to live by an old saying :
If you dont have anything nice to say, don't say anything.
I wish a 121 rule would be put on this forum that would drive all the flamers outta here.
...and if you dont even know what 121 stands for do some reading and work on your manners.

It seems that the negative spirit of my post was mistaken for positive.
In any case, this issue has already been dragged for too long.

Rule 121. FORM OF PETITION AND ANSWER - Numbered Paragraphs.
Each allegation of distinct and separate facts should be placed in a paragraph by itself which should be numbered; and, when so numbered, the order observed in the Petition should be followed in the Answer.
Damn. I guess this thread my rules out my plan to take all of "the Hobbit Guy" aka Dragon's stuff and start my modelling career off with a bang. But if none of you have seen Lord of the Rings, I've got a reel that will blow your minds . . .
Chin up, xebra. A bit more etiquette would be nice, but don't take the crits too seriously. Use what you gotta use and keep trying to create the best work you can. I think it's just that people are committing their time and energy to these crits and comments and don't like to feel that been duped into critiquing work that's not entirely yours. Just be more up front next time.
BTW, there has been SO much f$%@ing awesome work on this site and THIS is the first time I've posted. Weird.
