POSITION: Tech Animator/Creature TD
DEPARTMENT: Rigging
Position Summary: The Tech Animator position is a technical position, but also requires an artistic eye to evaluate results. The Tech Animator works with several departments in order to ensure successful completion of 3D character shots, which includes the application of dynamics, fur and cloth to characters. Tech Animators are part of the Character Rigging Department and work closely with all aspects of the production pipeline, especially animation and lighting. Responsibilities · Modify fur movement through dynamics and harmonics · Modify character body movement through deformations · Evaluate animation curves for proper skin and fur appearance · Create skin and fur animation to hand off to lighters · Run test renders to evaluate fur and skin movement · Communicate with Animators and Lighters to ensure proper pipeline flow for characters
Required Skills/Experience
BS in technical field or equivalent experience in 3D graphics
Excellent communication skills
Excellent problem solving skills
Linux/Unix proficiency
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple requests
Scripting ability - Perl, csh, etc.
Entertainment-specific 3D package proficiency (e.g. Houdini, Maya)
Understanding of computer animation techniques and terminology
Desired Skills/Experience
Strong understanding of dynamics and fur
Programming experience in computer graphics
Experience in a support position
Strong understanding of Anatomy
Art background
