hi,

great work! This forum has some of the best work i've ever seen!

If this is a stupid question, please tolorate me - im a newbi!
i have used max for a while now but have never had the need to do complex moddeling - until now. could you please give me a little help regarding mapping? in a nutshell could you explain how you would go about mapping the body of your model? i've used texporter a little but cant see how it would work with something as complex as a body.

any help and advice is appreciated.
keep up the good work!!!

See this thread (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=412) for my take on the mapping thing.

Unfortunately, I haven't yet found the time to wrap up the tutorial...

A trick I use for some organics is to use procedurals as a base coat and mixes on top. The procedurals are algorithms so they never stretch or warp. That way if there are any regular map problems they blend in to form a layered texture and it's not noticeable.

I guess it all depends on what you're texturing. I try to do everything procedurally as often as I can... however, bear in mind that this will increase your render times. When I need to paint bitmaps, I'll use texporter to unwrap my mesh and paint on top of that. Also, most of my materials tend to be quite complex. I always use composite/maks maps layered. Just go and give a look to the object you're trying to emulate. Cheers!
