View Full Version : Interested in more info on scriptwriting software...
dax3d 12-20-2005, 02:07 AM Hi all,
A friend was telling me about this interesting article he supposedly read in Newsweek, where Spielberg is talking about some (new?) software that helped him flesh out his ideas and so forth. I was wondering if anyone read this, and could point to the article or software itself? I tried searching and nothing came up. Just sounded like an interesting read (I still write on notebooks anyways haha).
Thanks

It was probably about how they are using proprietary software that utilizes 3d game engines to do realtime previz stuff... Spielberg and Lucas are all pumped up about that stuff...theyve both used it in recent productions and are trying to make it easier to use, as well as hooking it deeper into their pipelines.... but its not about scriptwriting software as much as its about Super animatic software.

That makes sense. I remember reading a Wired article on War of the Worlds, which a big part was about previz. They mentioned the Acer Ferrari, the power it had, and tools used to do the previz for the movie. Helped him cut production time down, etc..
Thanks

Wow, sorry I did not see a response to this post.
That looks like a great piece of software...I'm going to get the trial when I get home.
Thanks for the tip!

You can also get a demo for Final Draft, I've been trying it and I like it a lot.

No script writing program helps you 'flesh out ideas' beyond spell check and formatting of course. ;)
As mentioned, I suspect it would be the previs/animatic teams that work on films these days that spielberg was talking about.

Hello
Dax yeah i think thats the case for what you are talking about here.. Lucas and Spielberg use a lot of pre-viz in their films cus they get to flesh out ideas in minimal costs so .. if you are making a film or writing the first step is to write a script then you can either do storyboards or pre-viz or both so you can get a clear vision of what the final look will be like.. iam guessing that in the following years pre-viz would be the thing to do cus it help you a lot more than storyboards cus you have movement and its lot easier to visualize your ideas.. My suggestion to you would be to see the extras in the new star wars movies there you get a lot of info about previz and pre-production.
Since you brought it up anyone knows how much it costs to make a previz sequence or short and what are the criteria for the charge. A friend of mine told me it doesnt matter if it a previz or a top quality animation the prices for hiring and animator or a 3d artist is the same its just that the previz will take a lot less to produce and to render.
