Hey

old post:
I just started to learn Maya.
Here is my first try to model something in maya:
http://mitglied.lycos.de/portalsys/CG/monster/1.jpg (http://mitglied.lycos.de/portalsys/CG/monster/1.jpg)
http://mitglied.lycos.de/portalsys/CG/monster/2.jpg (http://mitglied.lycos.de/portalsys/CG/monster/2.jpg)
http://mitglied.lycos.de/portalsys/CG/monster/3.jpg (http://mitglied.lycos.de/portalsys/CG/monster/3.jpg)
http://mitglied.lycos.de/portalsys/CG/monster/4.jpg (http://mitglied.lycos.de/portalsys/CG/monster/4.jpg)

This is the concept sketch. I found it in the internet, don't know who made it:
http://mitglied.lycos.de/portalsys/CG/monster/CS.gif (http://mitglied.lycos.de/portalsys/CG/monster/CS.gif)

Now, I don't know how to go on.
Because of, if I smooth my objekt it looks not really nice.
Do you have any tip for me?
Do you like the model?
What's bad?
What can i do better?

New post:

I want to show you my work and my progress,
and I want you to criticise it!

here's what I want to reach:

I try to get basics skills in:

1. Modelling
2. Texturing
3. Lightning & Rendering

after this i'll set first priority onto animation

here my current wips will be posted.
if you're intrested, or want to help me,
feel free to comment

mesh is alittle dense atm, u might wanna start over and try and use a reduced amount of polygons, just to get ur proportions right, and then start adding edgeloops in.

ahh ok.
so I have to define my model with such loops?
http://mitglied.lycos.de/portalsys/CG/edgeloop.jpg

but why? and what is it good for?

ok i see this way of modeling is easier.
http://mitglied.lycos.de/portalsys/CG/edgeloop2.jpg

so wouldn't it be better, if i model my "monster" a second time?

yes start over and first define ur monster with a simple mesh, then go in and start cutting details into it

ok now i created a basic head shape (with support of Dave K's Poly Head Modeling Tutorial)
http://mitglied.lycos.de/portalsys/CG/Shape.jpg
now my questions:
are the triangles A and C really needed?
and is B a good solution for the problem?
are this too many polygons?
and what's bad?

thank you

hey

ok because of school i got not much time to practice my skills, so it all takes a long time.
i want to show you the rough shape of a head model i made. it took 3-4 minutes to model this. is it too long? What do you think about the model, what can i do better?
ok hope you'll read it. :)

hm.. no reply again.
here i tryed to define the head (dave's tutorial) a bit more with help of edgeloops.
so please write something.
