I recently went from Maya 6.0.1 to 7.0, after getting 7.0 up and working I noticed after I uninstalled 6.0.1 from my computer that all my Maya Binary files weren't being read, as in, when I double-click on a file to open it in 7.0 it'll say "Windows doesn't recognize the file extension, choose a program from this list, blah blah blah", I can open up the files fine if I'm already in 7.0 but other then that I can't open them. I can't even add Maya 7.0 to the list of programs to choose from when it gives me that error. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Also, just a note: I tried seeing if maybe 7.0 wasn't picking up on the binary files because all my files are 6.0.1, but I tried saving a blank scene to the desktop from 7.0 and it still doesn't read it when I double-click it.

So it's not just older files that aren't reading but new ones saved in 7.0 as well.

Help would be appreciated.

Assuming your are using Windoz. Open Win Explorer and go to Tools > Folder options. Under the File Types tab you may edit the file associations globally.

Windoz should do this for you automatically when you get the prompt the first time. Seems that it's not though.

Thanksfor the quick reply.

Where is the exe for Maya 7.0 that I use to tell the extension to open? I keep going to the bin folder inside my Maya 7.0 directory but it never shows up when I try and add it.

I figured it out. Thanks for that information, because otherwise I wouldn't have been able to fix it. I just had to delete the MB Extension, make a new one, then go into Advanced and make the action 'open' and set the maya.exe as what opens it and it worked.
