View Full Version : 64bit plugins compatability list
rob rhodes 12-17-2005, 08:04 PM Just did a check and couldn't find a list of plugins that do and don't work on win 64 yet. Is there one out there already or should we start one? The 20% rendering speedup seems like a real incentive to go 64 esp on a new dual core machine, some of Mash's cinebench marks are insane for dual core 64 bit. I have been looking at FR2 which seems to render GI pretty fast but there isn't a student version of it out yet (im a student) - and as for maxwell that is a real shame as it looks great but can't be guarenteed when its going to come out and time is key at the mo.
Just using AR 2.5 64 bit seems like a good option (depending on what plugins are supported). 1. its about 20% faster than 32bit, 2. Nothing new to learn, 3. Will support hair module which FR i dont think does. 4. I don't think C4D is at any extra cost or am I wrong on that? Just the price of Win 64 which is about £100.
Anyone had any experience with Plugins and C4D 64bit then?

I haven't seen a list, but I'll start it:
Anything COFFEE should work unmodified.
And these plugins by myself:
1. interPoser Ltd 2.2.1 and up for R9.
2. Drop It! Pro (when released shortly).
I think Renato has also ported his plugins to 64-bit, but let's wait for his addition to the list.

Hmm, I would port DPIT to 64-bit if there would be enough feedback, but currently only few users (not only DPIT I mean) are using 64-bit versions afaik.
When the 64-bit userbase will increase (and it will) I am sure most plugin developers will compile their plugins for 64-bit.
Best would be to ask the developers of the certain plugins themselves. I remember Remotion did some 64-bit compiles for his plugins (not sure if all or only some).

its a bit chicken and egg!! A big reason for not changing to 64bit IMO is because there doesn't seem to be much support for plugins! I can appreciate it must be a real pain to do, especially if your all wanting to spend time creating new ones rather than converting old ones!

yes, i am awaiting plugins to be 64 bit before i can go 64 bit. even with rendering. if jenna is not 64 bit, i can't render anything.

Its a tough battle, users cna't see a reason to upgrade til their plugins work and plugin developers mostly wont upgrade (like designer is saying) till there are users interested. Get Win 64, set it up on a dual boot even though your not supposed to, and the two work fine together. This will then allow you to say yes I have 64 and am interested in 64 bit plugins.
plus the rendering bost you can see is quite handy to have when not using plugin shaders.

I was thinking of dual booting 32xp and 64bit xp, but I was wondering if you need to put 32bit then 64bit second?
Like win2k has to come first then xp in that order...or does it matter?
I couldn't find anything on google or MS$ about this so i'm just curious before I try it.

64 bit second would be safer imo dunno if it matters though.
typiclaly most would already have xp32 installed

i will buy a 64 bit opteron 275 soon.
so i hope too there will be many 64 bit plugins. i think 64 bit will be THE thing in 2006.
so please developers ...:-)))) change your plugins to 64bit!
cheers
stefan
I would also really appreciate 64bit version of the plugins I use frequently. Esp. zBlur, Jenna, DPIT and fR. I have 64bit Cinema installed but I am still forced to use 32bit version because there are no (or very few) 64bit plugins.

Ditools has been compiled to work with 64bit afaik...i haven't tried it...and its is just to provide usability in 64bit version of c4d...no additional features afaik...i'll check though.
