Hello.
Iím working on some low poly characters using normal maps for my specialization project at school.

I started with a low poly character that I imported to ZBrush, detailed it in ZBrush and brought the high Poly model back to Maya and produced normal maps to the low poly character. This is the first time using ZBrush as well as doing normal maps.
The character is 2800 triangles with colour, spec and normal maps.

I havenít got an engine to try the model in yet, but we are going to get one sometime after Xmas. This is a hardware render from Maya.

Iím pretty much ready to get on with the next model, but I would really like to get some critiques and feedback so that my next model will get better.

Great work, but I've got a few crits for ya.

First, the skin has too much yellow (and to a lesser extent, green) in it. He almost looks sickly. Give him a bit more of a tan or somethin.

I also dont like how the bicep abruptly stops when the forearm begins. It should flow into the forearm a little better than that rather than just stopping at a crease between the upper and lower arms.

The pants look like a pair of dress slacks that I own. A bit too preppy for a gangsta I'd think.

Lastly, tone down the specularity a bit if you can. Hes a bit too shiny imo.

Still, its really good work though.

Well, I think the specular and colour is fine, I only find his shoes to be rather big. But on an artistic level I'd say it's great.

Hi guys... thanks for the critique.

I have had a lot of problem deciding about the skin tone actually, and I used the yellowish one after a few tests, but now I just had to change it again. I think maybe it came out a bit too much like chocolate this time, let me know what you guys think!?

(I put up some compare pictures below, the old one in the upper left and the new in the lower left)

I also made the shoes a bit smaller by the way.

Much better skin colour the other one was abit shiny. One thing I have noticed is....

A gangster wearing brown pants?

They usually in denim jeans or tracksuits. and they tend to be excessively baggy..... anyway your character looks great

Yeah, I know. I agree with the pants being totally wrong...

Since itís a Latino/Mexican gang member I also have heard that chinos would be more suitable, or as you say, a pair of baggy pants... any way, I think I leave him with the pants for now since Iíve just started with some new projects. But Iím very grateful for all the feedback.
