Can anyone help with info other than Mya's generic Help file on Live? This is something that I somehow can figure out on my own and after doing the desired seps from the Help with my scene I get lost and don't understant how the tracked points synch to points on my geometry.......If anyone knows a resource, tutorial, explanation i would be most grateful because i have to "Live" around 25 shots and I should get started....:buttrock: Thank You.

i do not know a resource for live, but i can give you one hint.

don't use it. it's BAD !!! i made a project with it a year ago and it was painfull. we also have bad experiences with these "FULLY AUTOMATIC" Trackers. Nothing really works. Except 3D Equalizer. off course, you have to set points by your own (just like in live) but it's the only programm which really really works in every situation.

but anyway, here are some hints i can give you on tracking in generell.

1. dont use big crosses in your scene for references, use high contrast points
2. before tracking adjust the contrast to get more
3. don't track to many points. the less the better
4. avoid zooming during shooting. zooms are the hardest to track
5. make sure that you have at LEAST 6 Points in your view to track
6. measure your scene. go around and measure everything you can get. helps for the tracker

so thats in generall. hope this helps a bit. we tend to use a combination of 3D Tracking and 2D Tracking in Compositing together. this works the best for us.

additionally i can give you one more advice for tracking in general:

dont track your footage in highest quality;
blur your images before tracking by 2-3 pixels. that helps a lot.
a median filter is a good idea as well.

never try to track .jpg sequences with high compression.. that will kill you.

i know that the trackings for the stargate TV series have been done with maya live. and i know the girl who did them. she was really good with live. but for me; i have the same experiences as svenip: maya live just sucks and 3d equalizer does it.
if you have the option to do it:
track your sequences in a post program (e.g. combustion, flame or something) and export the tracker data from there (tracking is much faster there). now you can import your data into equalizer and just calculate the camera solution. that is the fastest and most reliable way we found.

good luck!

I'll def integrate your suggestions into my workflow although Ive tried a couple already......Its the only available resource I have and my camera isn't moving in and of the shots so it needs no tracking i dust need the camera to me rotated, translated and adjusted to match my 3D scene to that of the real life scene. I measured everything and have simple boxes in place of the kitchen scene im using but i don't know how Live can match the geometry to the camera shot like in my video....

Thanks again.
Andrei

P.S. I don't have 3D Equalizer.....:scream:
