View Full Version : High Res mapping in Maya

Hello everybody,

I have been thinking about the possibility to map a high-res polygon object with the help of a low-res template. I know, a way would be to reduce the number of polygons, do the mapping and add a smooth modifier afterwards. However the danger of the mesh coming muddled up out of the smoothing bothers me.

Instead of the "poly-smasher" approach I was thinking about using the optimized (low-res) version as a mapping aid (or even a projector). Basically speaking, you use the reduced UVīs to map the mesh and then apply the mapping to the high-res object, or you could load the low-res mesh as an "automatic mapping" template...

I havenīt defined the details in my head, so please drop your own suggestions in this topic.
