Title: City Ruins
Name: Natiq Aghayev
Country: Azerbaijan
Software: Photoshop
This is the concept I've been thinking about for a very long time really. But for various reasons only now I was able to quench my "Need For Fallout" thirst ;) Yes, I'm a huge fan of Fallout game and hence all of that post apocalyptic, you know, post nuclear stuff, which is extremely dear to my heart. So I thought it might be a good idea to draw something interesting that would express my love and passion for the sacred Title's philosophy :) I've been working on this for about 3 weeks (mostly erazing and correcting what was drawn previously) recalling good ol' times double clicking on fallout.exe and once again understanding that "war.. war never changes.."©

Freaking a-w-e-s-o-m-e! Such amazing detail and great atmosphere. the only thing is the smoke looks a little to uniform and perfectly shaped to me - but I am just amazed. Wonderful stuff.

Thanks! I am extremely glad you like it!
minminxu - Thank you! Yes, you're right. Painting such scenes is much more fun than actually umm.. seeing it in real life ;)
Anarki3000 - Thanks man! That's exactly what I was thinking about during the work process - to draw something I'd be happy to see in F3 myself :) Just imagine this scene as a part of F3 location! Wouldn't it be fun to explore? Cheers ;)
BlackBastet - Spasibki! Thank you very very much! I'm really glad you like it!
Elsie - Aw, thanks! Cuz' the last week it was all just about adding details and erazing multiplied by x100 :) Thanks!
Chiaotzu - Thank you!
Kapow - Thank you very much! Thanks for such pleasant comments but I think there's nothing too special and interesting to write a tutorial on :) I'm using Photoshop CS2 which I love for it's painting tools and rich opportunities for working on photo footage. Initial sketch was done in a couple of hours (always trying to keep sketching no longer than one'an'half or two hours). Using most of the time Standard Chalky brush set to 100% opacity jitter. Tablet: wacom intous 3. For 3d elements of this scene I used Softimage|XSI 5.0.
Pletter, Ahmed Hosny, Tomas Slobodnik - Thanks a lot guys! I appreciate Your attention and comments!

To avoid redundancy I’ll just say ditto to all!! I would not have the patients for this kind of thing. Magnificent job! :applause:
oO let me just stare a while!
ok..
This picture is just amazing! There are so many details and the tornado comes out great at the background.
Thats another example for painting detailed is also a great way to show realism.

Great idea! :)) I like the billboard on the right :) Although after a nuclear war there wouldn't be so much left in the city probably...

jullenar - Thanx! Well It was really fun to work on these details. Even more I just couldn't seem to stop myself from further detaling but it had to end somewhere so I said to myself: "Okay man, if you don't want to be permanently banned on CGtalk for extreme overboring people with unneded stuff that is hardly seen - you have to stop now.." ;) Thanks -)
Imo - Whoa thanks! I appreciate your comments and attention! Of course details are great way to show things in a more convincing way. And that was one of my main goals in this composition. Thanks!!
Silencer von NMA - I'm extremely glad that "No Mutants Allowed" resource's admin is also here :) You have just made my day also ;)
Katea - Thanks! Concerning what might be left and what's not.. well I'll citate phrase from Fallout 2's video intro: "Build the world you were dreaming of.. Results may vary.." ;) Thank you!

Dude, I'm *this* close the shedding a tear!
I'm also a die hard fallout fan... Its the best atmosphere in a game i've EVER experienced and all I want to do with my life is be part of the creation of a sequel.
back to YOU, of course :)
Kick ass work, really. I'm totally taken by it, you've captured the world excellently - that billboard in the foreground is classical.. agh... Fallout....
Right on man, right on!

Honestly, I used to live for Fallout.
I'd show every person I know the intro to it. Great frickin' game. It has definitely shaped my artistic style, almost as much as Road Warrior and ass-less chaps...
I like the atmosphere and the idea.
Awesome picture.

wow, this is very good painting. so much detail and still very falloutesque (if there is such a word :P). nuka-cola sign is nice touch.
i think almost a year has passed since i played fallout - time to play it again. even more so if you look at the lack of decent new games out there.

Wow, its good too see the number of fallout inspired art rising!
The image is great, but i have to admit that i dont really like the atmosphere. The color and the amount of detail i think, make the image really dynamic and somehow alive so it doesn't seem like its really abandoned and dead as it should be.
I'm no expert, this is just my opinion as a humble observer :)

Really Good stuff, congrats!
only critz I got is about the sun and tornado. Sun seems way too brigt, too strong, should create some more intense contrast in the whole picture and defenitely have some influence on the tornado, but there doesn't seem to be any highlights, glowing, transparency, on it. But mostly, it seriously lacks of wind in your picture, no flying debris, dust, etc... Feels like it doesn't belong there.
For the rest, very nice painting, great detailing, bliboard is cool, damaged vehicles, building, nice touch!

this is a very nice piece. i totally love it. i also like the whole "end of the world", " destruction of the world" theme. i think it's really cool.
the only crit i'll give for this one is the tornado. i think there should be a clout of debree where it's touching the ground. and the way it's conneced to the sky is pretty weired, it looks like it was just pasted into the pic.
the rest is super awesome.
keep it up. your work rocks!!

_onewolf']_Onewolf.--Diddo, Fellow Post NUclear vault dweller. I to feel that you caotured the fallout vision perfectly i immediatley devieted to that eira as well, but to my dissapointment I Couldn't see the beloved Pip Boy anywhere in the pic, it would ave been cool as somekind of Hwres Waldo attribte was given to him, Lol, jst jokn, it looks awsome.
My question is regards your technique , how does one master such mouse movement to be able to create such specacular 2D stills without ever slecthing it manually? How did you start this out, I fail to believe that there is a possibility that one can capture perfect details with just a mouse, or is it just me...?:|

-tolga- it's a pity I didn't participate in GSO. Not that I'm sure I'd win anything but it's always required to jump much higher over your head to participate in such High end contests which is a hard to overestimate factor. Your GSO is fantastic!
Blinck - 10x ;)
madhatfx - Thanks for comments and crits! I appreciate it! :)
littleac - Thank you very much! :)
pailhead, Adriano_Zanetti - Thanks for Your constructive crits and comments! Well you might be right, but, you know, understand me right, this is the way I "saw" it :). I was really trying to think more than twice before putting any element in there. If I'd show you the sketch and the middle process of this work you'd be surprised of how many interesting things couldn't make it to final composition. And often it was hard enough for me to delete things which I had so much work on the other day. Of course there are much things that different people see differently and I respect Your opinion. Thank you very much for your crits guys!
Sollesnes - Thanks mate!
Lingolas - Thanks friend! I am extremely glad You like it :)
Crash - Thank you for crits!

aceofamity - Hey thanks alot! Concerning my technique.. well nothing special about it. But it's defintely not about a mouse, it's my wacom Intous3 A4 :) Without it I am afraid I couldn't be able to do anything at all :) Thank you very very much!
Woohaa©! I hope I didn't forget anybody, I apologise in advance if I suddenly did :)
Thank you All very very much!
Also I'd like to thank CGtalk's administration team which put this thread on a frontpage! You are the best!

Hehe, of cours of course! Who am I to tell you it's wrong.... I most certainely don't want to argue with you over what "your " art should look like :). My crit was based on the fact that pretty much every element in your scene receives highlights and drops shadows... I was just wondering why the tornado wouldn't... It just felt like it didn't belong here....but don't get me wrong, your work deserves a minimum of 4 stars, no less
