So, here we go. My own thread *scary*
Donīt have much to show yet, but I put what I have and fill it up over time:)
12-15-2005, 02:19 PM
From the workclass here on CG:
12-15-2005, 02:20 PM
Started to work with colors a "bit" more
12-15-2005, 02:29 PM
Just wow Sara. Amazing work. You manage to bring such depth to your pieces.:arteest:
12-15-2005, 02:53 PM
Alright, SaraD! :arteest:
This will be a great thread to follow! I can't take a look at the work you've placed here atm, but I know your high standards of quality, and I've no doubt that everything looks beautiful all together. Will be adding this to the Links Sticky very soon. :)
EDIT: Okay, your thread has now been linked here. (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showpost.php?p=2817397&postcount=12) :)
Great to see this, can't wait to see what you post here! :)
12-15-2005, 06:08 PM
Great...Now I won't have to search all over the place to find your BEAUTIFUL paintings.
Quality always trumps quantity, slowly but surely, and every time... :wise:
LOVE your paintings and style...:applause:
12-18-2005, 03:31 PM
Trying a new colorscheme.
12-18-2005, 09:19 PM
wow! those are exceLLent paintings! very inspiring! hope to see more soon!
12-21-2005, 09:56 AM
Some updates. Both are from the anatomy class here on CG.
12-22-2005, 12:15 AM
I hope you don't mind my saying that I really like your most recent "updates" (both the finished and not yet finished). Obviously, and admittedly, I'm biased from the word "go" under the circumstances, but in any case, to me there's an emotional quality and component in them that stands out to me and speaks to me and is a key part of what really makes art "art" and seem like so much more than a drawing exercise (if that makes any sense).
12-22-2005, 10:51 AM
Thanks a lot Ben - I donīt mind at all. Come on - what a great honour to have a pleased model:)
Hereīs the latest (finished?) update. There are still things that needs correction and attention, but I think this one will have to rest for a while now.
Before those two I was really rejecting the thought to paint the male body. I found it so hard and difficult to capture. I still donīt master it, but I found a joy in painting it :)
12-22-2005, 01:23 PM
Well, Sara, if what you created does not represent "mastery", when it does it will be an incredible sight to behold. I'm pleased that you found joy in it. Maybe that's what I feel when I see these works. Obviously, I think these works are very, very well-done.
01-05-2006, 10:27 AM
Some new paintings. The first one is an aged Ben.
01-05-2006, 10:28 AM
And from the latest OFDW, that I had real problems with. I just couldnīt get started. But hereīs a finished one even :)
01-10-2006, 09:38 PM
On to OFDW nr 11
01-11-2006, 01:35 AM
Hi Sara, there's lots of beautiful work going on here! You have a very nice and smooth painting technique. It's lovely :)
And a great start on the female photo for 011. Looking good!
01-11-2006, 06:21 PM
Just to echo all your previous visitors... your work is marvellous, and even over a short time span, there's a marked improvement. The females are my favourite, you seem to have a natural empathy with the form, not to say the males aren't lovely, but there's something esle in your females for me.
I'd love to know how long it takes you to complete these pictures, especially as you have so many!
01-15-2006, 07:55 PM
The final piece for OFDW 11. This is my first attempt to bring the figure into an enviroment. It was fun, but difficult. And I know - it could be more dynamic, more vivid, more.... everything. But from here I can only get better, right? :)
01-15-2006, 08:50 PM
Your figures are always BEAUTIFUL..just by themselves, but now they will be even
more BEAUTIFUL, because they have aquired and reflect a piece of YOU.
Your imagination, your SPIRIT, are visible now, and it is a pleasure seeing.. BOTH..:applause:
01-15-2006, 10:29 PM
Great to see you do this, and many kudos to you for trying something new! :bounce:Really beautiful work...I think you will really enjoy the Master Copy OFDW which we are going to do next, and I'm thrilled at your participation! :bounce:
01-18-2006, 12:09 AM
Damn SaraD, your skintones are getting better all the time! You really capture the model beautifully.
01-30-2006, 11:51 AM
This is the latest task in the Open Figure Drawing Workshop - a mastercopy. So much fun, and so hard to do... Damn, he was a good painter
The original painting can be seen here
02-03-2006, 01:22 PM
02-14-2006, 09:19 AM
Needed another object to paint, and left the figuredrawing to concentrate on some portraiting instead. Just a WIP.
02-14-2006, 02:58 PM
Very cool to see this, Ms. D! Does the background at the moment look a bit apocalyptic? :D
I'm sure this will be another great piece! :)
02-24-2006, 01:33 PM
Still trying to put the models in composition, and this is the latest result.
02-24-2006, 01:39 PM
Wow Sara, just checked out this thread - you have some beautiful work going on here! Colours and form are just wonderful :) my only suggestion is that sometimes your work feels like it could use a slight dash of texture here and there, generally they're rather smooth - very nice stuff, I'll be checking back here. Hej hej!
02-24-2006, 02:17 PM
Beautiful start, SaraD! Thrilled to have you back for OFDW 014, and no, you didn't miss anything, I'm just superstitious. ;)
Sorry to hear about the internet / Painter problems, but I'm happy you're not letting it get you down and are back in action! :bounce:
02-25-2006, 02:14 AM
WOW!!...Nice imagination at work..:applause:
Composition looks great to me...gets my eye moveing...nice flow to it...but you know what
I see, or rather don't see....the baby dolphin that is just breaking the surface of the water
next to it's mothers tail...must be what the girl is looking at...maybe
Like the way you overlapped the shapes...gives it a lot of depth.
Beautiful painting Sara...a real pleasure seeing it.... :arteest:
03-01-2006, 09:50 PM
If you haven't already, you should totally join the Challenge!
03-05-2006, 08:42 PM
Next master copy. William B. this time around as well. The last one got destroyed by master painter-crash, but I donīt give up.... And take copies in other fileformats ;)
04-25-2006, 08:17 AM
Finally had the time to join an OFDW. Hereīs my start on Rembrandts "Titus van Rijn in a Monk's Habit"
04-25-2006, 10:28 PM
Wow! Thats looking great Sara!!:scream: Whats your canvas size?
04-26-2006, 01:43 PM
rblitz7, the monk is on a 3500x3000 px canvas, 200 dpi. I usually work around that size, since my computer tend to slow down when I go bigger. I often scale parts of the painting while Iīm working on details and the scale them down again:)
Next mastercopy from OFDW16. Selfportrait by Rembrandt
04-28-2006, 12:54 PM
Wanted a break from the master copying over in the OFDW, and started a piece with one of the models from Hong Lyīs superb collections over at http://characterdesigns.com. I donīt have the whole concept yet, but Iīm really enjoying to paint the female body in my own colorscheme again :)
05-03-2006, 10:06 AM
An update on my flowergirl. Youīll see the flowers soon;)
05-03-2006, 10:13 PM
Ooh, great to see you doing this, SaraD! Looking forward to your progress. :)
05-04-2006, 11:57 AM
Slowly making progress
05-05-2006, 01:50 PM
Feet and hand "finished". In my opinion the hardest part - so Iīm so glad I can leave them behind, and start on the face :bounce:
05-05-2006, 03:29 PM
Nice work. I look forward to seening your progress.
05-05-2006, 05:57 PM
Hi ...SaraD....Beautiful already...can't wait to see where you go with it..purple, gold, copper..
05-21-2006, 07:50 AM
Hong Ly pictures too ~ just couldn't fit it in the title: :D
Open Figure Drawing Workshop - Sorolla, Zorn, Leon Master Copy - with Rebeccak 017 (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=360025)
05-25-2006, 10:18 PM
Gave the flower girl some time off, and joined the OFDW 017. Hereīs a master copy of a Jean-Léon Gérôme painting called " Black Bashi-Bazouk".
05-26-2006, 12:12 PM
Hereīs some progress.
These are REALLY good! I can imagine some REALLY fantastic work in the coming future!
05-26-2006, 01:31 PM
That is looking great! I was thinking on starting with this painting as well for the OFDW... or maybe I'll play around with the portraits of Zorolla?
Well we'll see! :)
Keep it up!!
05-27-2006, 07:23 PM
Done some more work on the hat. Finding it difficult to get in the pattern. Time for some hanging "thingys"
05-31-2006, 12:20 PM
Most of the hat is finished, and now I need a rest from it, so Iīm starting on the clothes and folds. Which I think is fun :)
05-31-2006, 03:43 PM
Amazing job on the OFDW entry, the work on the hat is just very complicated, that deserves its own OFDW.
06-01-2006, 03:53 PM
Started on the clothes.
06-02-2006, 06:59 AM
Almost finished now. Just the rifle and then the last touch-ups.
06-02-2006, 07:17 AM
That's looking fantastic! I think this is one of your best pieces so far. :)
06-02-2006, 11:12 AM
06-04-2006, 10:17 PM
Started on another painting in the OFDW nr 17, and Iīm gonna save more WIPīs on this one, since I canīt do a tutorial :)
06-04-2006, 10:36 PM
Wow! Awsome work SaraD! I can't wait to see this latest one finished :)
06-12-2006, 10:53 AM
Started on the man himself.
06-12-2006, 11:56 AM
Really dig your work Sara, especially how you add so much depth to everything you do.Kudos!
Can you share any tips on your process? Like setting up your initial color palette, brushes you use, you way of blending colors e.t.c
Keep up the inspiring work
06-12-2006, 01:56 PM
Hereīs a closeup on the merchants face.
06-12-2006, 03:42 PM
Some absolutely amazing work in here, a real joy to look through.
06-13-2006, 09:42 AM
Update on the face
06-13-2006, 12:44 PM
Another small update on the face.
06-13-2006, 03:18 PM
Great to see your step by steps! It would be great to see them all together in a separate Tutorial once your OFDW piece is complete! :)
06-15-2006, 02:09 PM
Iīll put them together Rebeccak. Iīm taking a LOT of WIPīs now ot be able to present some kind of tut (if I finish this one)
Hereīs an updat of the face, and now Iīm moving on to the dress and tigerskin :scream:
06-16-2006, 11:35 PM
I had to go there sooner or later - I present to you: The skin :scream:
06-18-2006, 09:51 PM
Did he really have to kill such a BIG tiger? I recommend a kitten for the next master copy :)
06-21-2006, 09:28 PM
More progress on the tiger - I can see the light in the tunnel :)
06-22-2006, 08:02 PM
My finished piece.
07-08-2006, 09:45 PM
Fell totally in love with Gerome and think I can learn so much from his paintings so I decided to do another copy. This time its An Arab and his dog.
Started on the background.
07-10-2006, 07:20 AM
Nice to see you working on something new! Good timing, too, as the OFDWs are suspended til after August 4th. :)
07-13-2006, 10:41 AM
Iīve totally remodelled my website, so there might be some links here and in other forums that wonīt work.
If you find one and really want to see the painting - let me know and I relink it.
07-17-2006, 11:45 PM
How cool to see all your OFDW pieces on your website! :) I couldn't get any of the thumbnails to link to larger images, but you probably know that. ;) Great new redesign, very elegant ~ a lot more user friendly as well.
07-25-2006, 02:07 PM
Wanted to do something of my own, instead of copying the masters. Fell for this beautiful stallion.
I was wondering where have you disappeared, but now I'm astonished with what you've came back! I think I can see a smile on that horse :)
Man the WIP of the horse certainly looks stunning!
I'm sure it'll turn out great!
07-25-2006, 06:07 PM
Wow! Beautiful work, SaraD! =D Cant wait to see that horse finished!:applause:
07-27-2006, 08:37 AM
Some more work on the stallion. Time for the mane. Or maybe it is a bold horse? ;) I hate painting hair, human or animal....
07-27-2006, 11:18 AM
I think itīs finished now.
Should do something about the background, but I canīt be bothered at the moment.
07-27-2006, 05:56 PM
Wow, SaraD! thats looks good.
The elipse mark it have at the base of his neck looks a bit weird, but I cant say what it is...
07-29-2006, 06:19 PM
Time for the next stallion:)
08-08-2006, 11:04 PM
Been on vacation so thereīs been slow progress in my corner:) Hereīs some more on my latest stallion
08-09-2006, 11:31 PM
And the finished piece :)
08-10-2006, 01:17 AM
Wow! Thats fantastic! The eye is beautifully rendered.:)
08-10-2006, 01:09 PM
Beautiful rendering as usual....maybe a little more expression around the mouth area...lips,
nostrals.....that area is really deserving of a lot of attention....and is where a lot of the horses character and mood is projected from....you might check out someone like Fredrick Remington...HE DID GREAT HORSES.
Keep up the great work
08-30-2006, 09:38 AM
Thought Iīd try to finish this one:)
Some more work on face and hair, and now itīs time for the background/Surrounding. If I had started this one today, the background would have been more refined already, but I hadnīt realized how much that made things easier for me, when I started this one:)
08-31-2006, 12:05 PM
Couldnīt decide of a bg, so I took the "easy" way out :)
09-01-2006, 02:03 PM
In a flow:) And not enough work;) So I started a new painting. Have no name yet, and no story - but itīll come:)
09-01-2006, 02:51 PM
awesome work, really like your skin tones and shading, wish mine where as good :)
09-06-2006, 10:11 AM
Had to start all over again, due to computer crash:( And forgot to backup of course:)
09-07-2006, 11:58 AM
Some more work on the dress.
09-08-2006, 03:12 PM
Some hair on my beauty
09-08-2006, 04:18 PM
Lovely updates - what reference are you using for this latest piece?
I really liked this piece without the black oval - just my 2 cents: :)
09-08-2006, 10:11 PM
I leave this as finished for now. Maybe Iīll paint some bg for it, when creativity flows again:)
Referencephoto from Lockstock over at Deviantart.org
09-08-2006, 10:35 PM
Sara - You work is great. What software do you use? I just started my digital career with Painter 9 and the Gateway tablet PC. I am loving it. I see you are using Lock as well. I used her a lot with my traditional color pencil work. Keep up the great work.
10-01-2006, 10:10 PM
This is a WIP of a darling little girl in a challenge over at Wetcancas.
10-05-2006, 12:04 PM
hereīs the finished piece.
you're an amazingly talented person...
... and I'm glad I found your sb :)
more soon I hope
10-15-2006, 06:56 PM
Started a painting "close to heart". A painting of my sons, Anton and Jakob. A difficult task, since I know their faces so well. Any minor flaw or mistake becomes so obvious :)
10-16-2006, 12:56 PM
WOW...That little girl portrait came out ...GREAT...:bounce:
Looks like you are off to a great start on the one of your sons also....really like that silvery blue gray that you are using for your backgrounds...keeping it loose and airy, in contrast to your beautiful rendering really is working well together...Beautiful work as always Sara, and always a pleasure seeing it...:)
10-19-2006, 11:02 AM
Thanks Glen! Your comments and postings are always such energy-fillups :)
Hereīs an update on the eldest son, Anton. "All" that is left now is the trillions of frickles heīs covered in :) Yippiiee
10-23-2006, 02:29 PM
Hair and freckles are in place more or less. Now over to number 2....
10-23-2006, 02:53 PM
Hey SaraD, I love your works - you got a great talent and skill.
Thanks to share your works, I'll try to learn something from it.
Are you using Photoshop or Painter?
10-23-2006, 10:10 PM
Beautiful thread, Sara. You have a wonderful mastery on light and skintones. Your sons' portraits are wonderful to see...I'm sure they will be really thrilled.
10-23-2006, 10:17 PM
How come I've missed this thread so far !! A sin. Great skin rendering and I love that sitting woman, hope you'll finish her :)
10-24-2006, 07:53 AM
Oh - the lady is finished a long time ago, just forgot to put her up here:) You can find her in my portfolio, or on my website:)
Thanks for the kind words!
10-24-2006, 08:24 AM
I visited your site and I just love your works, especially those flowers - the subtlety of the rose pettals is amazing... sigh - wish I could do that! Thanks for inspiration :)
10-24-2006, 02:21 PM
Some more update. I hope you donīt get bored ;)
ytresu - I use Painter IX for the whole process.
10-24-2006, 03:10 PM
And some closeups
10-24-2006, 03:11 PM
Hi Sara... This the first time i am seeing your thread... Your work is sooo inspiring...! Keep up the good work!
10-25-2006, 08:55 AM
Jakob is emerging on the canvas
10-25-2006, 01:48 PM
And the finished painting.
11-10-2006, 02:54 PM
Continuing the "close-to-heart" theme.
This is my son Anton and his beloved pony Dusty. Dusty just left us (Anton grew too tall), and this is a gift for Anton to hang over his bed. They had a lot of fun, and Dusty is deeply missed...
it's really nice. I'm sure your son will be very pleased with it :)
11-10-2006, 04:42 PM
I have always enjoyed your paintings. Your portraits of your sons is looking good. I will keep watching.
11-10-2006, 11:51 PM
Your portraits are very pleasing...I'm sure your sons will love them.
02-20-2007, 12:35 PM
Will try to finish this one, for a change:)
Itīs a Master Copy from the latest workclass.
02-20-2007, 12:55 PM
Hey Sara! wassup! been missing you for a while... welcome back, and happy new year!!:D nice work on your master copy!
02-20-2007, 02:32 PM
Impressive works on your Thread!
02-20-2007, 02:42 PM
reallly good works here sara :applause: :applause:
02-20-2007, 03:28 PM
Great to see you back! :)
03-16-2007, 02:54 PM
Havenīt had any time for painting the past months, and everytime Iīve tried to start a painting (some OFDWīs mostly), I never have the time to finish them:( And I realized that some of the joy was gone. The thrill to see your motive emerge on the canvas...
So, I browsed around to see if I could find anything to paint with joy - and found the inspiration needed at Benīs (Justmenias) gallery. He has some amazing photos for reference, and I just love to paint him!
So - hereīs a start. I think Iīll keep this one in black and white, play around with brigthness and light, and then print in different settings and hang on my wall:)
03-16-2007, 03:07 PM
Sara - I know what you mean. You have always been an inspiration for me to get sparked and keep going. I did a quick one recently to get my juices flowing, Stellar Bride. Now I am working on my Norwegian friend and her daughter just for something different... no nude this time. You have a great start with this one. I look forward to the completion. Later from Tejas!
03-17-2007, 11:22 PM
Aggie - THANKS for the kind words! Talk about inspiration :)
Hereīs a small update on Ben.
03-17-2007, 11:23 PM
Ben studies! He is indeed a fantastic model. :) Beautiful work as usual, looking forward to more.
03-18-2007, 02:04 AM
Great thread you have here! Great style of painting.
03-18-2007, 12:13 PM
Thanks Becca and Batte!
More update:) The energy i sflowing again, and this is SO MUCH FUN :):)
03-18-2007, 05:33 PM
Coming along beautifully, Sara! Great to see!
03-18-2007, 06:57 PM
Thanks Ben - a good obejct is easy to paint;)
Hereīs some more from today. Trying to give it as much intention that I possible can before the workweek:)
04-03-2007, 02:56 PM
A bit of a slow-down lately, too much work to do:)
But hereīs an update on Ben. Heīs almost finished, just gonna do the final touches.
04-03-2007, 03:01 PM
Gorgeous! He's so smooth and well rendered. It's beautiful work :)
04-03-2007, 05:25 PM
this is absolutely fantastic Sara!:bounce:
04-03-2007, 09:50 PM
Wow Sara that looks fantastic. I like you step by step your posting too. I haven't touched my art in a week and I am feeling the need by reviewing your posts! Thanks!:D
04-04-2007, 12:35 AM
Wow Sara. Can I admit I had been hoping somebody would take that pose and do it right/well? I think you have. It's got a great feeling. The capture of the lighting, the bit of glow, it's very, very good (my own admitted biases, notwithstanding, of course).
One question, if I may.... I shared your latest image with a couple of friends of mine (and I hope that's okay) and they indicated that they are potentially interested in a print of it, if they can afford it, and if you'd be interested in selling one..... May I direct them your way?
04-04-2007, 01:15 AM
From the workclass here on CG:
I( love the cheascake! very pretty pin-ups!
04-04-2007, 06:04 AM
I've got to agree with many of the posts here: I really like the progress you've had with Ben's photo/pose. It's coming along nicely.
I'm sure Ben will be thrilled to see it
I think it's one of the best Ben Miller studies I've seen lately!
04-04-2007, 11:21 AM
Thank you SO MUCH for all the kind words!
Hereīs the finished piece
04-04-2007, 04:38 PM
This looks gorgeous. I hope you sell prints too. :)
04-04-2007, 05:14 PM
Interesting that you are leaving it in B&W. Is there any reason?
04-10-2007, 12:31 PM
Hereīs a start on the next painting of the same "subject" - Ben.
The last one is now available as a print over at deviantart.com, for those who are interested:)
04-10-2007, 03:54 PM
QUOTE=SaraD]Hereīs a start on the next painting of the same "object" - Ben.

I browsed over to your gallery. I really love the figurative work section! Nice work!.
Subject would be a better word I think, but concidering the quality of your studies I think Ben just won't mind hehe
04-10-2007, 06:34 PM
Subject would be a better word I think, but concidering the quality of your studies I think Ben just won't mind hehe
Youīre right - Iīll edit ;)
05-08-2007, 10:52 AM
Far too little time to paint lately, but hereīs some update on Ben.
05-08-2007, 01:44 PM
And hereīs the finished piece
05-08-2007, 02:08 PM
Sara - That looks so good. The simple lines really stand out. Great studies!
05-08-2007, 04:42 PM
WOW! I'm not sure what else I could say, Sara. But, definitely WOW!
05-08-2007, 05:11 PM
You have great drawing skills. All of your figures look good and very natural when it comes to anatomy.
05-12-2007, 06:57 PM
When I wanted to continue my black and white studies I just couldnīt resist this reference by Elestren66 (over at deviantart.com). The photo is in my opinion complete - I just try to take it in and put it on canvas.
05-13-2007, 08:08 AM
superb work.nthin else to say .its great
05-13-2007, 09:41 PM
A small update
05-15-2007, 01:02 PM

Hi Sara, You have some amazing figure drawing work here and I've enjoyed looking through your thread. I like the girl in the ocean with the dolphin. I also have to mention the horses..they are beautiful!
