I tried to catch the moment of a Alien-Robo invasion and to make it kind of funny and pathetic.
Here's how it's done:
Step 1.

Pencil sketch scanned from paper. I liked this robo really well...
Step 2.

Basic shading in Photoshop. Just the midtone and some highlights. In this phase, i don't really care much about details and line precision.
Step 3.

Creating background. I needed this apocalyptic mood of world going down by invaders. Rough brushes were used to give the wright lightning. I mostly use the Natural Brushes #2 from Photoshop CS.
Step 4.

Coloring. Well, this one's mostly the hardest. I tried to integrate the figure in the environment, having fire and explosion reflection on it.
Step 5.

Outline. Yeah, some hate, some love it. In this particular case, i felt like wanting it a bit more comic-like. So i ctrl-clicked the sihluette of my robo and added two strokes: first one is white, the second one is thick black (4pt) stroke.
I also textured the surface of the robot with the easiest filter from the Filter Gallery in PS by duplicating the figure, giving it a texture and the multiplying it with the underlayer.
Step 6.

Voila! The final image. I used some blocky fonts as textures. It achieves great effects.
So, i hope you like this image. Comments are most welcome.
Cheers,
