Ok, you need to look up multi-subobject material, uvw mapping in the help files. Basically select some polys where the logo is going to go, make a copy of the "base" ball material (add logos), and drag this material onto the selected polys. Now, this will create a multi/sub material, then you need to make mapping coordinates for these polys with the correct material ID. There is no short simple explanation, I would say if you get stuck, look at the help files. :)

You could try to make one big mat and but your logos and such in a diffuse map/ :")

no
Tbonz816 is right
use sub object material

very easy to learn
from what i can see based on that pic you will need to make 2 images
1 is the star that you can put on say mat ID 2 and the other is the coners of the star where you would put on mat ID 3

yes it is totaly possable
by doing same thing i mentioned above and useing a mask map

the ball looks good but you should render it closer so you can see the detail(least what detail a socer ball has hehe)

here is one i did a long time ago(just to show what i meen by detail

I just finished doing suurlands soccer ball this morning coincidently. And it even explains how to do what you want.

1. did you make the uvw modifier and save the screen shot then cut out the yellow box around each of the two Ngons?

2. from the looks of your pic. you didn't finish it off by applying the meshsmooths and spherify modifiers. It looks too flat.

3. Fred, your soccer balls look freakin unreal!! very nice bro.

Here's a rendering of the one I did this morning

CooL !!!
now for the blend material i used it's kind of simple... the blend material mix 2 different materials whith or whithout a mask ! cool.

So we need material 1.
The main color of the ball - this particulary Adidas ball has this gold has base color, so on Material Editor, in the first Sample Slot
for now named 1 - Default, we start.
Let it be a Standart Material, just name it Color mat (or something you'll remember later), all we do is change the default color for the color of the ball, (i used for Ambience R:170, G:170, B:150 ; Diffuse: R:220, G:220, B:180, and Specular it's R:229, G:229, B:229.) and change also the Specular highlights, something like 45/15/0.1, will do.

Now for the Pattern.
Not all balls have pattern, but... Material Sample Slot 2, just change the name for Pattern or something, and apply on the diffuse color a map you wish, on Specular highlights, set the values to 0.

Now For the Logo.
To Apply the logo on Sample Slot 3, Press on the Get Material icon, and on the Material/Map Browser, chose Mask, this mask has two slots, one for the map and the other for the mask.
Name it Mask whatever, apply your logo image in the map slot and for the mask image ( the Alpha of the Logo )make it black and white in Photoshop,Logo White ( the white will see ), and the surroundings of the logo in black ( the black we don't see ).

The Blend...
Material Sample Slot 4, Press on the Button saying Standart, and on the Material/Map Browser chose the Blend material, (it's on Browse from: New).
This one has tree slots, for the one on Material 1, drag and drop you're first material, the color named one.
For the Material 2, drag the material Pattern, in this case we apply nothing in the mask of the blend...

For now you have the material with the right color and pattern, so it miss the logo.
For this select you're color Material, now drag the mask material you did into the small square button of Diffuse, make instance.
it works now... make a save...
For the logo to fit like only 4 times on a ball, i change his tilling to 4/2, but this depends of the image and result needed.
For the map i apply a Spherical UVW Map in all the ball, ok it dont fit like a glove, .

if it miss something or something that is not very clear.. just post it

this ball tutorial of suurlands it's great.

Oh, come now fred...you must know about ScriptSpot!?

www.scriptspot.com for all your 3ds scripting needs.

even has the one and only script I made to clean up material names. It just renames the materials so stuff like 'blue metal' becomes 'Blue Metal', or 'BLUE METAL' becomes 'Blue Metal'

nothing grand or spectacular. just a time saver.
