Cut-Me-Own-Throat-Dibbler 12-14-2005, 08:43 AM Hi All,
This is my first real attempt at a more realistic painting as I usually prefer a more comic style. I am need of some crits on a/ whether it is worth pursuing this piece and b/what I should be looking at to improve it (whether that be a 600 pixel eraser). I know ive still got a hell of a lot to do, but I reckon some advice at this stage will be very beneficial.

Hi, you definitely have a nice drawing here. I think you might want to take a look at the following link to find a really good tutorial by our wonderful Enayla:
www.furiae.com (http://www.furiae.com) then browse gallery->tutorials->thoughts on skin tone
just a note on the skin tone tutorial: go for very small touches of color...variations should be very subtle! (this is at least what I experienced recently) and blend often the different colours you pick from the palette (you'll understand better what I mean after reading the tutorial).
ps.: if you use photoshop you might try the tutorial with the "linda_fav" variant you can find in the collection of brushes goro provided here:

keep it up!

Hi, J_Grieve. Watch the shape of his chin -- it's a little too drastic, and check his nose -- might just be the shadow but it looks like it's off center/diagonal. Definitely worth continuing, though. He's a cute little guy.

Got some time at last for a quick update. I tried to straighten the nose and reduce the chin slightly. Worked a little on the skin tone also.
