View Full Version : Star Wars Fan Film Ship: "Hawk"

This is a ship I'm currently building for a Star Wars Fan Film project (Pre Ep. 1 era).
The primary function of this ship is really a personal transport, but we decided that a sleek, aggressive design was in order. Especially when considering the designs of Episode 1.

Done in Blender 2.36, all images are viewport screengrabs.
I need to push some verts around a little among other things.

C&C very welcome.

relatively minor update here, just pushed some verts around to smooth out the flow more to my liking. I cleaned up the mess that was between the engines on the bottom of the fusselage and refined some of the section transitions (wing-body blend, engine nacelle-fusselage, nacelle shape) The original engine design was rather dull, so I changed that up a bit as well. And the wings have been thinned down a bit.

I'm just about finished with smoothing out the base shape before I start cutting in details. :wip:
C&C very welcome.

It certainly has potential. Do you have any concept art, or a general look from the Star Wars movies that you are going for?

Looks too much like a klingon bird of war or prey what ever they are called. Maybe mix it up some more?

I totally agree with that.

Star wars has a specific style young Jedi.

Stick to it or I will send my dark disciples after you.

eosmusashi, DogmaD, Chems, DimitrisK Thanks for your replies!

I have to agree there is some similarity with the Bird (http://www.demaagd.com/models/BOPtopside.jpg) of Prey (http://www.demaagd.com/models/BOPunderside.jpg), but then this also looks a little like the Event Horizon (http://unr.edu/homepage/jcannon/ejse/e_h.jpg), or any other craft with a forward mounted cockpit and aft engines with wings.

The layout I was going for was more of the jedi transport (http://www.celestiamotherlode.net/catalog/images/screenshots/various/fic_starwars_Star_Wars_Saga__Episode_1__linuxman.jpg) at the beginning of Episode 1, combined with the sleekness of Amidala's chrome transport (http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Chateau/9532/dc.htm) . To that extent I think I have acheived what I'm looking for.

I am attempting to avoid as much Star Trek as possible. Additional details and surfacing should bring this fully into the Star Wars realm. Also to note that this ship is only going to be used for the opening sequence of the film and will probably only have about as much screen time as the aforementioned jedi transport. :D

Did a few tweaks, and added quite a bit of geometry to the mesh.
Most of the new geometry is in additional edge loops to define corners and edges.
I Also added in the cockpit viewport, and the forward landing gear bay.
The bay is a bit too wide at the moment, I should have that resolved for my next update. :wip:
and a wide shot.

C&C very welcome!

EDIT: The colors here are anything but final!

I think it's a pretty awesome design. I've tried designing ships before and they didn't turn out anywhere near as cool as that.

Looking good.

The whole thing looks a lot bigger now that you have put the cocpit windows in. Is it such a huge craft or could you make them bigger to reduce its size? Seems quite bulky at the moment.

Flow looks good, only the outside edge of the wing might need to be curved out a little bit they arnt that sharp normally. Only problems are where you have cut out the bays, might ad a few polys here and there to keep the flow going.

Slick styling. it's a bit early to really drop any real crits. The overall shape is nice. A mix between aerodynamics and some sci-fi. One thing that stands out to me is that the nose.. though it fits the style, it seems a bit too large. from the side, the ship looks like it would always be a challenge to keep the nose up in the air due to the sheer mass. Maybe it's just me..

And yes, I also thought about the "bird of prey" when I first saw it..

I like it, ready to see some more updates.
