Hi,

I just graduated as an Graphix-designer (not 3D, more kinda photoshop, illustrator, indesign, pagemaker, quark, ...). But this is not what I'm interested in. I WANNA DO 3D!!! So I've been teaching myself 3DS MAX. Everybuddy at school and my friends reaaly - really like my work. But when I see what some (most of them) guys can make whit it, I just don't understand how they do it.

Is there a way to learn it without having to pay a fortune (Like I said, i'm just a poor just-graduated kid).

A Cheap school maybe, or somthin' else....

I live in Antwerp/Belgium & I searched the net after a school not to far away from home, but ..... NOPE!

CAN SOME-1 PLZ HELP ME?

Here u can see what I can make so far:
Oh yeah, please click me, .... please :) (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=22909#post22909)

You could go to a school, but if the money is a concern there is a tremendous amount of tutorials & material for Max on the web. Do a search on google for '3D Max tutorial' & you will end up with lots & lots.

Initially though, I would reccomend getting New Riders Max Fundamentals book, its fantastic, & gives you a good solid foundation to work up from.

Also think about what you want to do. Do you want to model, texture, animate - if you are looking to get into this as a profession, you will find that most often you will be working with a team, and will be doing part of a production - not everything yourself! ;)

I had a look at your post in the gallery, it looks nice, but you've sorta run out of ideas on where to go? Thats a common problem at this stage in your learning - You should have a specific plan of what you are doing before you start modelling. And do it in stages, finish the modelling first then start texturing... etc.

you have a graphic design background - use it. Draw sketches of your idea before even before you open Max.

Its like anything, you need to get to know the tools before you can efficiently translate what is in your head into what you have on screen. Freeform modelling without a plan in mind should be left until you know the tools intimately.

& keep asking questions on forums like this, there are lots of very experienced people willing to shed light on problems - just be specific, let them know what you are trying to o & ask their opinion on the best way to go about it. :)

Wow! thanks Chris. That was a verry much-telling reply :)

Tutorials: Yeah, searched the web already a LOT of times, but always get some crappy tutorials like "How to loft a cilinder" ?! , tjss...

About what kinda job I wanno do?
To be honnest... I-WANNIT-ALL!!
Sketch-Model-Texture-Animate

Sure, I know that isn't possible, but a little variaton in the job is always a good thing ;) .

About that group, there are some friends of mine who wanna start a company with me (they really believe I can do it!, helps alot). But that will kost us many goldcoins... But I'm not the just-giving-it-up-type. Like I said, I live in Belgium and there is not much of an 3D-Industrie here so there is some future in it, .... I hope...

Join the club. I'm also from Belgium ( Leuven ). There is no school in Belgium where you can learn Max, Lightwave, Maya ... . ( not even nightschools ) You have to do it on your own.
I know a guy that finnist least year productdesign (Antwerpen). He wants to find a job in the game industry so he went to Canada to learn ( the lucky bastard ). But it cost a lot of money to do that.
In about 3 months he's comming back and then he goes to work in a French gamecompany becaurse in Belgium there is no gameindustry and there are only a handfull of 3d companies.

The best way is, buy some books, surf the net for tutorials and try to find some people in your neberhood that are also doing 3d.

Hoi Bupa,

I would like to speak 'belgisch' to ya, but I think that's kinda 'associaal' (hehehe).

U sayd I have to seek some more poeple in the regeon who also do 3D.... Hmmm, don't know any, but u live in Leuven, thats not far from Antwerpen. Maybe we can keep contact and learn from eachother (Icq, MSN, ...)?

Just a suggestion, would be nice though....

My icq is 146417251.

I know it's very hard to find people in Belgium that are working with 3d. And if you find some you will not get any (well, most of the time) information about tips, tricks and company. Self protection I think.

You can allways contact me.
